Wow

Ok, so I guess that I have major news, which I am reminded of when seeing my journal name. I started eating fish a week and a half ago in an attempt to convert back to carnivory. I decided that with my wheat allergy, I was living and eating like a vegetarian on the Atkins diet. I wasn't getting enough protein for someone who is athletic, and definitely haven't gained all the much weight after adopting a pretty much sedentary lifestyle. So with two more weeks left at work, and then three weeks exploring Europe, I decided that there would be no better time to start eating meat again than when I could experience all of these new cuisines. It is kind of weird though, trying to cook new foods. Because I stopped eating meat when I was thirteen, I never actually had to cook meat for myself. This last week and a half has basically been tunafish, smoked salmon quesadillas, and salmon burgers, all relatively easy to prepare. Things are going to get dicey though when I attempt chicken this weekend. I am determined to avoid E. coli at all costs. I think one of my first attempts will be some grilled chicken with a sweet potato and garlic sauce that I usually have with ravioli. Should be fun.

In other news, I did a bunch of exploring this weekend with Devin. She is studying in Oxford but came into London to stay with me for the weekend. Friday afternoon was spent exploring Kew Gardens. Finally after seven weeks here I found the wallabies, who were incredibly cute, although they seemed a little sad stuck in the middle of the woods. We went to the Victoria and Albert, Portabello Road Market, St. Paul's (just for a look) the Millenium Bridge (finally got to walk across) and the Tate Modern, ending with a walk along the Thames, to Big Ben, Westminster, Parliament, and then the Strand, all on Saturday. If that wasn't enough, we ended our British weekend by watching the Wimbledon Championships on the big hill at Wimbledon, and also got to see the men's doubles wheelchair championships up close. When that was over, we went to my local pub and watched the World Cup final, while eating chips of course.

It seems very strange to me that it is already July 12th. I can't believe that so much of the summer has already passed me by. I'm really excited about my vacation with Mary that is coming up in two and a half weeks, and I'm hoping that then it will officially feel like summer. When I eventually get home to NY, I will only have two weeks at home before I head back for my senior year, which is a very scary thought. I have already requested that my family have a barbeque in my honor, so that I can eat yummy barbequed food. Mmm. Ok, it's 2 in the afternoon here, and theoretically I should be doing some plant themed work. I'm going to go back to my laptop, and see what kind of inspiration iTunes can bring for me. Later this afternoon I will go for a run in the hot steamy London weather, and then I will join some coworkers for a picnic and fireworks later.

Later days
