pizza - pala on allen and e. houston isn't new, but they've changed their menu quite recently - they now have two separate menus of equal size, one vegan and one fail - and the vegan menu is GLORIOUS. especially recommended: patatosa, arrabiata, and etna pies. plus they're all soy free and have a gluten-free option.

comfort food - i find meskel ethiopian, on e3rd and b, to be incredible comfort food. hearty, rich, warm, and stew-y - especially the fosolia. i'd recommend take-out, though, because the in-house portions have diminished lately. and if it turns out not to be your thing, at least there's always kate's joint a block away!

I went to this place called loving hut which seems fairly new to me, and they have delicious quesadillas using daiya :D
