I live with two omni roommates, one of whom is considerably more awesome about my veganism than the other, who constantly criticizes my diet. She's not completely maniacal about it, or anything... it's more like saying stuff about how she just doesn't see how eating so many carbs could be healthy, how her diet is so healthy because she eats plenty of lean meat and has a glass of milk with every meal, and how she would just gain so much weight the way I eat because I don't get enough protien. She's definitely open about proclaiming how healthy she is and how I eat way too much bread, way too many starches, yadda yadda. For the record, I hardly eat processed food... I'll eat the occasional veggie burger once in a while, and I do have a couple "treats" a week, but for the most part I rely on veggies, fruits and whole grain.
Now, aside from the fact that her glass of milk with every meal (in front of me, of course, since we share a living room and kitchen) makes me want to puke, I don't know how to respond when she criticizes my diet, and I don't know whether to approach her about the fact that her diet really isn't all that wonderful for her or the animals. She'll brag about only eating lean hamburger and how awesome she feels about it, but I'm having a really hard time resisting throwing Diet for a New America in her face and shouting something about how the cow damn well doesn't feel that way.
I know that's not the best way to go about dealing with the situation, though, so I'd love to hear what you guys would say or not say in this situation.
Thanks so much, I really appreciate it!!
