Hey guys! I was hoping to get some opinions on how to break the whole vegan thing to my new roommates.
Here's a little background information: I'm waiting to start a vegan diet until I move into my apartment on Saturday. I know some of you guys are probably cringing right now, but I'm living at my parents' house, and I didn't really start reading into being a vegan until the end of summer. Since neither of them are vegan and really don't have a vegan-equipped household, I just figured I'd save everyone some strife and start Saturday.
The thing is, I'm living with two non-vegan roommates, and I'm not really sure how to go about telling them that I'm not trying to be a snot by not eating their cooking, it's actually because of (in my case) a moral belief. Thankfully I didn't supply most of the appliances so I don't have to worry about animal products in anything but my blender but... I don't know. I don't want to make enemies before I've even really gotten to know these girls.
Anything particular I should include (or leave out) when I explain what I'm doing, diet wise? Anyone else live with non-vegans? How do you deal with the cooking situation? I don't mind at all making vegan meals for them, too, but I don't want to be forceful, either, and I definitely don't want to offend them by not eating what they cook. I also don't want them to feel like they HAVE to use vegan ingredients.
So, thoughts?
Thanks everyone! I really appreciate your insight! :)
