I just got a soy chai latte with a shot of espresso in it from the local coffeeshop. Usually they write on the cup and on the receipt that it's made with soymilk (and what the drink order is), but this time they didn't write anything on the side and they didn't give me a receipt. They initially said it was a "dirty soy chai", but I'm not sure it's ( Read more... )

I'm always worried they'll get my soy latte wrong. Though the only time I know of that I accidentally drank a dairy product was about two years back when my girlfriend at the time brought me a drink at work from the smoothie shop and didn't think to double check there was no dairy in it. I could tell from a sip something was off and my stomache going crazy not much later confirmed it. Ugh.

I'm afraid of my stomach freaking out because it's either cow's milk or I've psyched myself out too much. I can't afford to give myself a tummy ache, but I really wanted some caffeine! BOO...

Me too... I just got a latte an hour ago and was paranoid. The barista knew it was soy and said so (I usually watch the barista to make sure they take out the soy carton, but I was distracted this time). I feel like I would know if it was cow's milk though

Sometimes when you I for a shot flavor and they use the sugar-free version, it tastes off and I worry it's dairy before I realize it's the fake sugar flavor.

I'd hope I'd know, but I tend to get paranoid when I forget to watch them make it. I think it's possible that they switched to plain soy milk rather than vanilla, because that would change the taste. I don't know, I should just always order the same thing so that I know exactly what I'm expecting!

I've gotten over feeling bad about watching like a mother effing HAWK. I do not pay $4 for 20oz of food poisoning.

Yes, unfortunately.

I can taste the difference usually (I think), soy makes it a bit sweeter. So, if it is not as sweet as usual I'm tipped off.

The first time it happened I thought I was being paranoid. A few hours later, my stomach confirmed I was not being paranoid.

I'm just afraid that I'm going to psych myself out and my stomach will feel all shitty only because I have a suspicion that it's cow's milk, not because it actually is. I wish I'd just ordered my usual latte, then I'd know the difference!

It's happened to me before, and I could tell straight away. After nearly two years of being used to the taste of soy, the 'creaminess' of dairy is really obvious. Although up until then I'd started to forget how it tasted, because it was such a 'foreign' taste, it was really obvious to me. Hope that helps! :)

I hope you're right! I'm psyching myself out. I think it still has 'chalkiness' that I'm used to with soy, but it still tastes different for some reason. I'm hoping they just let the espresso spoil because that messes with its taste, or maybe they switched from vanilla to plain soy or something.

My friend was buying me (my first ever) soy chai latte and as I went to grab the cup he beat me to it and said "DON'T DRINK THAT!!". He could tell from the look that it was cow's milk. I didn't know what a soy one would look like so I would have had it if not for him *love*.
Luckily I didn't taste it. I have no idea if I'd know. I'd like to think I would, but you never know.

and I totally get you on the psyching yourself out. You could make yourself feel queasy just thinking "oh god it was cow's milk" even if it was soy. :(
