Rantity rant rant

I'm arguing with a friend of mine, who is an off-again, on-again vegan. Every time he is super committed to whatever belief it is. It's never, 'oh, I think gluten-free living may be good, I'll research it and make up my mind, it's "OMG vegan is the only way", "No! a plant based with lean red meats the ideal diet!", "No! gluten free is the way ( Read more... )

Gosh, how irritating. I don't have any input other than to say that you are pretty patient for putting up with that mess of an argument for so long! I would simply make diet conversations off limits with someone like that.

What a tool. Sounds like he needs to get an opinion that is HIS. I could have him killed you know...well, not really, but its cool to pretend i have that power.

...But seriously. lol.

haha I used to know someone just like that. He would also be a member of a different religion almost every time I saw him.

I'm surprised he isn't. He is staunchly against any religion, but hey,who knows what will happen next week?

I think what is important is that you stay strong in your conviction to remind him that people can be vegan healthy. People will change their ideals and back slide, but in my opinion, it is important not to get on their case too much. If you are continually trying to get him to change back to veganism, it could come off as overwhelming or preachy.

Maybe, if he is so literarily labile, for every new "fact" he is spouting, try to offer up the vegan fact that coincides, and point out the scientific merits or research behind it. Was he vegan for health reasons or other reasons (AR? Environment? Political?)?

The OP doesn't push him to be vegan. The guy the OP is talking about used to push tin_foil_hat to be vegan, so it just seems so ridiculous that he flip flops. One minute he says EVERYONE SHOULD BE VEGAN, the next he's saying NO-ONE should be.

He's just a fucking tool.

Yeah I didn't get on him about it, he brought it up out of nowhere actually. I tend to let my friends be unless they bring anything up. I don't mind if he isn't vegan, but I had to argue because it came out of nowhere, and once he decides something he starts making directives ('you should eat lean meat occasionally' 'you should take X vitamin supplement') and I wanted to get him thinking about why he is constantly changing his opinions. I think perhaps I need to get him around some happy healthy vegans, and away from dodgy internet sites.

He was vegan mostly for health reasons I think.
