Rantity rant rant

I'm arguing with a friend of mine, who is an off-again, on-again vegan. Every time he is super committed to whatever belief it is. It's never, 'oh, I think gluten-free living may be good, I'll research it and make up my mind, it's "OMG vegan is the only way", "No! a plant based with lean red meats the ideal diet!", "No! gluten free is the way!", "No! You need fish"; He completely changes his beliefs. Does he have no critical thought? Just every time he reads something new he fully believes it, doesn't even check the credibility of the source! Argh!

He was vegan last week; seriously - LAST WEEK! And now he's telling me that you can't be healthy without lean meat in your diet, and that babies under 2 years shouldn't be vegan. -_- Also that killing animals is ok because "if animals r raised [humanely] why cant they b killed and eaten?" and "even peter singer says it can b ethical". Apparently veganism is all "just symbolism" and "no one but eliteists (sic) will go veg".

Also I keep asking him if he makes sure his meat-animals are humanely kept, and he keeps dodging the question (initially with "100's of animals get killed thru grain farming")

Whhhhy? Why? He's lived as a vegan for 4 years straight before too, so he CAN do it, he knows how. Whhhhhhyyyyyyy?
