I posted an entry a couple days ago about my friend who is opening his eyes to veganism and made a myspace comment about it. He's working at a vegetarian coffee shop and so he's been eating quite a few meals there as well. For those of you in New York, it's 'sNice, one location in Chelsea and one in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The food there is absolutely amazing. Anyway.... so I didn't know if he was actually getting into veganism/vegetarianism or if it's just something he was toying around with, either way it's great, at the very least he's trying something new, but it seems like something is getting through because yesterday he messaged me at work and told me he had just bought really good seitan curry from whole foods. I'm sure you all know someone like this but he's from South Carolina, grew up on meat, loves bacon and club sandwiches, and now he's eating seitan?!?!?! How great is that?!
It gets better though... There's a talk on Wednesday, Sept.10th about animal rights (I'm including the info below for all of you New Yorkers) and I told Dan, the friend I'm talking about, about it and he said he definitely wants to come with me!
When I first went vegan years ago I didn't really realize the large scheme of things... Now that I'm an adult I can see how much small actions can make big differences!!!
Here's the info for the workshop:
By the way, this is a part of the "NYC Vegetarian Advocacy Meetup Group" from Meetup.com:
Time: 8:00pm - 10:00pm
Location: 6 E. 16th St. lobby of the New School University (@ 5th Ave.)
Please RSVP to: animalrights@newschool.edu and bring your ID.
Animal advocates Jasmin Singer (Farm Sanctuary) and Marisa Miller Wolfson (Kind Green Planet) have been raising eyebrows all around New York City with their unconventional, standing room-only workshops. With the help of willing audience members, they will nimbly take on topics such as the interlocking forms of oppression between animal rights, women’s rights, and gay rights-and how you can change the world simply by changing what (and whom) you consume. Unlike most workshops on these topics, they promise more giggles than tears while still guiding you through a thorough and well-rounded discussion.
Have a great Labor Day Weekend! Anyone have exciting plans?
