Dentists?

Dec 27, 2007 10:34

I just went to my dentist and my previously cavity prone teeth (they're softer than they're supposed to be because I was sick when I was a baby or something) have been cavity-less since I turned vegan almost a year ago. YAY! Proof that you don't need milk to strengthen your teeth. Psh ( Read more... )

Yeah, it's really not looking good. There's "mercury free" dentistry, but quackwatch.com says that's bull. I don't know how reliable it is, though. I'll read more about it, but googling 'holistic dentistry' will get you the same sites I got.

Yeah, that's what I was picking up from the research. The quackwatch just seemed to be saying that there are no good alternatives and it's unnecessary to remove something already in place. I suppose it doesn't matter much for me, though, because my insurance for sure won't cover any of it. :\

yeah - I have my doubts about vegan dentists...
I have to say my dentist is probably the weirdest guy - he use to pick up road kill on the highway and bring it to the taxedermist and so his office has all of these stuffed animals all over the place (gotta love the quirkiness of vermont). At first it truely offended me and now I just don't know what to think about it. I mean - most people leave those dead animals on the road for more people to just keep driving over (me included - I'm not about to put dead animals in my car)... It's not like he kills the animals... However, it still grosses me out when I try and picture him scraping these animals off of the road and then putting them in his car. BUT I know he has a huge respect for nature and that he wants to admire these animals (first time I've seen an adult fisher cat was in his office) - so I let it slide. His prices are too good ($20 for cleaning, $25 filling - without insurence) and he isn't the typical dentist out to try and get people's money...

i don't know about the natural-dentist thing, but the better teeth via veganism thing happened to me too! i went in for my first cleaning in a year and a half, terrified because i thought i'd waited too long and would have a million cavities. after poking around my mouth for a minute, my dentist told me, in a puzzled voice, that my teeth looked fantastic and that he almost didn't need to do a cleaning at all.

I had a dentist who, while not natural/vegan, was definitely an enviromentalist and very tolerant of my questions about vegan dentistry. I don't know if Naperville is too far for you to go, but if you want, I can give you the address.
