I'm not sure how I came across this site, but it is pretty much the most amazing thing I have ever found.
www.nutritiondata.com On this site you can look up just about any food and check its complete nutrition information. Wanna know how much manganese is in that banana? Go ahead!
Not only is it the perfect data base for your DV info but it has an additional feature called the Pantry. Here you can search the databases for foods and stick them into your Pantry. What I am using this for is to check how nutritious, how carby, how caloric, how fatty, etc. a meal is. I just checked the nutrition content of my breakfast: 1/3 cup bran flakes, 1/3 cup almonds, 1 7" banana, 1 ounce soy milk. Came out to:
Calories 486 (2035 kJ) 24%
Dietary Fiber 14.1 g 56%
Protein 15.6 g 31%
Total Fat 25.5 g 39%
Vitamin A 1515 IU 30%
Vitamin C 70.3 mg 117%
Iron 20.7 mg 115% (Haha and you vegans worry about iron! I'm done for the day already!)
Of course you can plug in what you eat in a whole day to check exactly how much you've consumed. Woo! Amazing huh?
Anyway you get the idea. It gives you a lot more info then I am posting. Try it out! I think I have found the most valuable resource for anyone who wants to know exactly what they are eating.
