I DEFINITELY second the use of Vegan Outreach's materials. They're great, informative, and not PETA. Unfortunately, PETA is most often viewed in a very negative light, and that can affect the way people perceive your group and the info you present.
Also, you may want to just focus on one or two aspects of A/R. I know that my group, Compassionate Action for Animals (http://www.exploreveg.org/) here in Minneapolis, focuses on battling the factory farm industry by promoting veganism and vegetarianism, which we feel is one of the most effective ways to make an impact and save the lives of millions of animals per year. Feel free to check out our website; we're having a bunch of events coming up in the near future (Veg Week and the Veg Pledge) that might spark some ideas for future events for your group. Our Veg Pledge event (where we get people to pledge to go vegetarian or vegan for a week and offer prizes/discounts at local restaurants) is super popular and a great way to challenge people to try vegetarianism! Just today I met a guy in one of my classes who pledged to go veg two years ago at our event and is still vegetarian today!
