I went into In-N-Out Burger today intending to just order fries and a side of tomatoes when, on a whim, I asked the cashier if they sold veggie burgers and he said yes. I had known that In-N-Out has a "secret" online menu that lists grilled cheese, but I had no clue that they made veggie burgers. I was slightly disappointed when I received my "veggie" burger: it was a raw vegetable sandwich, not the soy patty I had envisioned. However, it turned out to be very yummy and (assuming the ingredients in the buns are ok) vegan.
I'm not posting this to debate the ethicalness of eating at an establishment whose primary focus is meat but rather to point out that the "secret" menu option exists for those who might be as excited by the information as I was. I tend to avoid fast food restaurants in general, but I've been addicted to In-N-Out Burger's fries for several years; they are so good and completely vegetarian. My sandwich was beautiful, fresh, and never placed on the grill and the employee who took my order didn't treat me like a freak.
