Out of line? Maybe...

I'm curious, not on what the 'vegan' response is, but on each individuals perception of the acceptability of abortion as I feel this and veganism would be closely intertwined? I probably won't respond to any responses, as debates like these tend to get heated, I'm just curious what the majority of vegans here believe in relation to this matter ( Read more... )

I'm pro-choice.

The religious right likes to make us out to be murderers who use abortion as a means of birth control, but...

nobody is pro-abortion. nobody's like "yeah! i'll just go get me an abortion - fuck condoms!"

Absolutely. All ethical issues aside, abortions are damn expensive. It's just not a viable form of birth control to be used "all the time" but something done in an emergency by those who have access to the care AND can afford it.

Or those who are so desperate/poor they will do it WITHOUT adequate care..

Actually, if you go to a family planning clinic and tell them you have no income, it's only about $100. Much cheaper than having the baby.

That depends on where you live. Not all areas have family planning clinics, and not all of them will be able to subsidize the procedure to that degree.

sadly, I DO know girls like that.. who have had multiple abortions and still aren't on birth control or controlling themselves.

That's a nice thought, but I know for a fact that's not true. I've known people who have had that exact philosophy.

I stand corrected.

I just figured the pain and discomfort and money cost would keep people from using abortion as a form of b/c.

I've NEVER met anyone like that - but it takes all kinds I guess..

I had a friend like that in high school, and a bunch of other friends who didn't see anything wrong with her behavior. I guess in a way it's a good thing she didn't want to have kids.

If you count "a few months your junior" as a "kiddo" then yes.
