So this community was created in response to this post. Well that was my motivation anyways.

To sum the post up (if you don't want to read it), I am wondering about how we have a few vegan communities splintered off. Namely veganpeople and veganism but also vegan_talkMy concerns ( Read more... )

1. I don't like cross posting. I belong to most of the vegan communities I know about, and I hate having my friends page spammed with the same stuff over and over again. AND having two different sets of responses to the same question.

I think for #2, we need alliances/affiliates with over vegan communities stated on the userinfo page (as in, a list under the list of owners/Mods). That way, we can try to get all the people asking about dating stuff and other local vegans to the vegan_singles comm, vegan recipes to vegan_recipes, etc etc.

#3- Dweller has been a big help since becoming a co-mod of veganism, I worry less about the trolls/arguing now. Also, I've begun to compile veganism's memories starting with it's own journal (I think I'm paused at June 2003); I want to add some memories in other's journals, also out-there FAQ type questions about things like vegan views of sex, female cycles (I know to go to menstrualhut for that), protesting.. But right now, getting my own community in order is at the top of my list ( ... )

i was wondering if the best option would to have either veganism or veganpeople go the way of vegan_people. and advertise in the "closed journal" whichever it be on the last entry which says
"in order to reduce the incidences of crossposting, this journal is now closed, please go to veganpeople(or veganism whichever one we decide to keep as active) for most of your posts.
for specific questions, we urge you to visit any of the following communities.
for anything related to cooking, go to vegancooking.
for anything related to dating, go to vegan_singles.
(and add any other community that would be better suited to any specific conversations)
because crossposting really gets my panties in a bundle ( ... )

I lost you in regards to the last paragraph. You were hoping that non-mods could comment but not post? And you were wanting this to be an approved membership community? I'm not 100% sure I agree with the former but I agree with the latter and will get on that.

In regards to the similarities of veganpeople and veganism, I still am under the impression that they should become one, with more moderators at hand.

So, to YOU moderators of veganism, what do you think specifically about merging the 2 communities? Specifically, what would make you not want to? If we decided to merge them, we'd have a lot of decisions to make certainly.

nooo. non-mods/non members can click a button on the community info page to make a post. (there's a radio button in the settings that gives or denies permission for non-members to post) no, by all means, they can post. that's why we exist. to make the communities a better place for them.
