So, I like cabbage and want to incorporate it into my cooking more (it's cheap, filling, has lots of vit C, etc.). I'd love to hear some of your favorite recipes incorporating cabbage. (Cabbage doesn't have to be the star of the dish, though.) Also, I'm not a big fan of coleslaw but I'm open to trying a slaw-like dish if it's something new/interesting.
Here's my favorite cabbage recipe:
Indian Cabbage Salad
1 tbsp vegetable oil or peanut oil
3/4 tsp mustard seeds
3/4 tsp celery seeds
2 small dried red chillies, whole
1 tbsp chopped unsalted peanuts
1/2 large cabbage head, finely shredded
salt, to taste
- Heat a oil in a large saucepan (med. heat), fry the mustard and celery seeds for 30 sec to 1 min.
- Add the chillies and peanuts and fry for a few minutes, until peanuts are starting to turn darker brown.
- Once cooked, stir in cabbage and salt, to taste. Stir-fry for ten minutes. Cabbage should still be pretty firm when finished.
This is also good if you add a bit of curry powder or garam masala, but I usually keep it simple and make it as written above.
(Adapted from
this recipe. The original is vegan and I'm sure it's delicious, but I substituted (and got rid of) some of the ingredients to use things that were more readily available to me.)
