(Vegan) Thai Coconut Milk?

Feb 13, 2008 15:32

My favorite Thai restaurant serves a type of tea that is delicious and that I've been trying- in vain- to
replicate at home. Does any of you know how to make (vegan) hot coconut tea? I think it's more of a latte
because it is very rich and creamy and is the same colour of a mocha latte- but there's no caffeine here.

Any suggestions how to make it? ( Read more... )

Is it a black tea or a chai tea? Well, you said no caffeine, so I'm assuming not a black tea.

Chai tea made with frothed coconut milk and a bit of agave syrup sounds really, really good right now.

No kidding!

I found this recipe. It calls for jasmine tea, which is always green (to my knowledge), so that may account for the lack of caffeine. It's iced and not as frothy as what you describe, but it's a start.

Is it the sweet bright orange Thai tea? I used to make Thai tea with sweetened condensed milk, but using coconut milk makes it come out just as rich and yummy and doesn't taste too much different. I'm not sure that's what you're going for, though.

Er, I just re-read your post and I know I'm off the mark, but I'm leaving this comment anyway because Thai tea is awesome too.

Yogi tea makes a tea called "Sweet Thai Delight" that is coconutty and thai based and generally awesome. I put almond milk in mine to make it more latte-like. I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for, but I bet you'd dig it regardless.
