Black Bean Hummus

May 03, 2007 09:23

I'm absolutely in love with black-bean hummus from Boloco. It has a more liquid texture than regular hummus, and is characterized by it's distinct PURPLE colour. I've had my hand in making hummus with chickpeas before, but I've never tried it with anything else. Has anyone tried this, or have any suggestions? Thanks!

That sounds really delicious! A Google search comes up with a bunch of recipe, and they are vegan.

One of my friends prefers hummus made from black beans - we use the same "recipe" that we use for chickpeas, just using black beans instead. I think we generally use a bit less lemon and a bit more garlic, but that's all 'to taste' stuff anyway.

That's how we make our black bean hummus - we just substitute the beans for the chickpeas. It comes out really yummy.

I used to *only* make hummus with black beans. They are really good in the hummus recipe in How it All Vegan.

I like to make black bean hummus the same as chick pea hummus - beans, tahini, garlic, olive oil - but I use lime juice instead of lemon, and I add a couple scallions and some cumin to it. And lots of cayenne. It's very tasty!

Lime juice. That sounds like it might just take it to another level. Black beans=super yummy goodness!
