Rather lengthy this time imo.
*setagaya/fai! oh!; The children are just like counting off as they do their laps. they actually say FAI! OH! but I changed it to ONE! TWO! because one would hear that more in American and would be able to understand it more I assume. ^^;
*a leopard's stripes/spots; Kamisaka-sensei tries to use a Japanese proverb, but accidentally messes up. The original proverb is, "雀百まで踊り忘れず (susume hyaku made odori wasurezu)", which basically just means that what one learns when young stays with them throughout their entire lifetime (which is why I chose what I felt was the English equivilent to the poverb, "a leopard cannot change its spots". Instead of 雀百まで踊り忘れず, Kamisaka-sensei accidentally says つばめ百まで踊り忘れず (tsubame hyaku made odori wasurezu) instead. 雀百まで踊り忘れず, when literally translated, actually means, "a sparrow does not forget how to dance for 100 years." (susume means sparrow). What Kamisaka-sensei says, つばめ百まで踊り忘れず, actually translates to "a swallow does not forget how to dance for 100 years." It's especially amusing for Kamisaka-sensei supposedly being a Japanese teacher. ;DD
*dashi; A Japanese soup with fish and kelp stock
*tsukemono; picked vegetables
*kabuki; is a type of dance-drama play-type performance that they do in Japan. Performers are all males (even the female parts) and put a lot of make-up on their face or use "no" masks. *homemade taste; in the script, kamisaka-sensei says, おふくろの味 (ofukuro no aji), which actually literally translates to "mom's homemade taste/cooking", but in this case since Shinichi's mom didn't make it, he's probably referring to Satomi's mom's homemade taste. I'm not a hundred percent sure, but I think this can also apply to a girlfriend's homemade cooking, etc.

*shinkansen; a bullet train in Japan. It's REALLLLY fast. if my memory isn't too off, I think it's like, the second fastest train in the world??
why so respectful?; in these starred lines, Satomi's speaking very formally (keigo) to Shinichi. Usually, she uses casual speech (zokugo) because she's his senior (senpai).
*karaoke boxes in Japan; In Japan (and the rest of Asia, for that matter) karaoke isn't like it is here in America; they have private rooms that they rent where they can go in and sing with their friends. You can also order food and drinks there. In America, when you do karaoke it has to be in front of everyone, even people you don't know, while in Asia it's mostly just with your friends, which I find more comfortable ten times fold. When I went to karaoke in Japan (went twice while I was there this summer), it was really awesome; they had songs in just about every single language. Srsly. And that thing Satomi was holding? You punch in numbers to it and it'll find the song for you. You can even search by artist or type. It's so cool. :D
