What was that, Attack of the Pod People night?

First, 24:

So, Tony gets some power, and all of a sudden he starts channeling George Mason? What was with that dismissal of Jack? And really, Tony, if you're going to hold a gun on Jack, you'd better just go ahead and shoot him. Did you learn nothing from your time with Nina? We love you, Tony, but not when you're being an idiot.

Pod Michelle, however, has some potential, although we won't raise the issue of why the woman in charge of the computer systems was interrogating a witness. She really is this year's Nina, but probably without the evil part. Watching her conspire with Jack felt very, very familiar, but not in a bad way. I like that she was willing to turn against Tony--it makes her more of a character and less of a stupid love interest. On which subject, let's not even talk about Kate.

I'm a little worried about Lynn. She seemed to dismiss the possibility that the tape was false a little too quickly, and now I worry that she's part of the Great Warmongering Conspiracy (which is what this is all about, right? the whole thing is a setup to drive the US into war with three unnamed Arab countries, so that the military-industrial complex will make a lot of money and be better able to manipulate the president. Hmm. Ring any bells?).

I think that Nina must reappear soon, if only to explain the German Connection. And to be slinky and evil.

And now, on to Buffy:

I won't talk about Spike and his mother issues, or the writers and their Anne Rice issues, or Buffy and her Spike issues. But what was up with Giles? Yes, he can be ruthless, but it struck me that he fell in with Wood's plan a little too quickly. I suppose, that Buffy's decision to remove the chip has him on edge, and now that I think about it I guess it's not too surprising--after all, it was Giles who lost the most when Angel became Angelus back in S2. He's wary of Buffy's tolerance for vampires who love her, because he sees it as dangerous.

I think what surprised me was not that Giles agreed that Spike should be killed but that he agreed to go about it in that particular way: that is, by hiding it from Buffy and lecturing her about principles. I don't think that Buffy's reaction to that was out of line for her: she needs to be able to trust Giles, and she needs Giles to trust her. That isn't what happened here.

And on an unrelated note, I thought Dru was just adorable here. Her face, when Spike starts talking about his mother! Too cute.
