Sabah - April 09

May 02, 2009 23:59

ok. finally got my ass down to organising the pictures
the pics from the adventure race are not complete yet though.

Spent about 8-9 days in Sabah.
the first 4 to 5 days were spent with Lip and Adrian. that was the leisure portion of the trip.
basically just led a lazy lifestyle. ate alot during meals and the spent the rest of the time on a river cruise, rafting, snorkelling and walking round town.
somehow time passed very slowly when we were there, which was good.
managed to relax my mind. a much desired break from work.

The food of Sabah:

first meal in Sabah

really enjoyed the night food market. cheap and good food. the atmosphere was great too. everyone looked very happy. heh

and then there was the ba kut teh. simply bagus. there was mushroom style. pork ball style and the other usual ribs and loin types for you to choose from. we ordered everything (well nearly)

The natural beauty of Sabah:

there are quite a lot of outdoor activities one can do in Sabah - there's Kinabalu, the nature reserves/national park, the islands off the mainland so on and so forth. we didnt climb kinabalu. went rafting, a river cruise to find the proboscis monkey and island hopping instead.

took a boat ride to find the monkeys. they look rather hideous. not just because of the nose. they have a huge tummy. makes them look like an old beer uncle.  but they are endangered so they are rather precious.

went island hopping. a short boat ride away to the islands where the water was so clear we could see the sea bed
lots of fishies, so snorkelling was a blast. the stupid tiny jellyfishes were an annoyance thoug
the monitor lizard you see in the pic was ambering around on the beach. yucks.

the city of sabah:

Kinabalu city itself was ok (apart from the food and cheap movie tickets). walked along the waterfront, checked out their sunday market and the other markets. saw tailors on the sewing machine - was surprised it was the men who are the ones doing it. in fact, only saw men mending clothes. no ladies.
the last two pics were taken out of fun. passing melons one by one by throwing them off the back of the truck
escalator warning signs. ladies next time when using the escalators, pls hitch up skirts like dainty princesses.

as usual, more pics on facebook.
the adventure race pics will come next.

holiday, friends
