"I do not know where this 'Celirand' is, my Lady, but as far as I know Vatheon is not a part of it." Mitsuhide bowed his head a little. "This place draws in souls from different worlds and different times; it is populated by people who were brought here the same way that you were. I know it is hard to believe, but it is the truth."

He pulled out the cloak from his box, then placed the box down for a moment.

"Nobody knows exactly what lies beyond the city, and above the water which surrounds it."

Well, except a few who would not tell, the so-called leaders of the city. There was no point in drowning Kohaku in information yet, however. What he had already said was plenty enough to take in; he remembered trying to do so when he had first arrived, well over a year beforehand. Mitsuhide straightened up.

"Would you like to wear this cloak? For now, and until you have time to settle in and shop around, it will protect you from the cold. I must admit that we do not usually get such weather here; it is unlucky that so many of you have been drawn in at such a time."

So she was in another world. That's what he was trying to tell her.

... so then this was like ... Quartzia. Or to another extent, Gardenia. It wasn't Celirand. It was another place, another world entirely.

"I ... believe you," Kohaku said slowly, the fact dawning on her and leaving a bit of a troubled expression on her face. Sure, she had been to other places before. Not always by choice, granted. She hadn't even begun to think that other worlds had existed until everyone had been suddenly transported to Quartzia ... this seemed like something of the same situation. Except, this time she was alone.

Well, not entirely. But she was definitely without Shing, or Hisui, or Beryl, or ... anybody she knew.

Kohaku continued to half-listen, still obviously troubled by the news she'd just received. She gave a numb nod as she listened to the next part of his explanation, and then finally looked up at the man once more as he offered her a cloak.

She found that words were failing her. So she nodded again, reaching for the cloak as it was offered to her.

"Thank you," she said. It sounded a little like a trained reaction.

Mitsuhide's expression became compassionate, sympathetic; he had greeted many people to the city, but still felt that same sadness on their behalf.

"We cannot leave here, at least of our own volition," he said. "But we are not expected to pay for accommodation, food, clothes... most things are free, with only a few exceptions. All you need do is show the local people the tattoo you now bear. It will look like this one."

He raised a hand and used the other one to pull away the glove covering it, revealing a tattoo across the back.

"It may not be in the same place as mine is, but you will find one somewhere."

Mitsuhide dropped the hand to his side and tilted his head. In a moment he would have to tell her about the curses, but first he offered a little reassurance. It was not much, but it had to be said.

"Do not fear, my Lady. Vatheon is not without its troubles, but we are all in this together."

Kohaku looked to the symbol on Mitsuhide's hand, looking to her hands once she had wrapped the cloak around her to see if hers was in the same place. It wasn't, but Kohaku could just barely make out similar markings through the still-wet sleeve of her right forearm.

She looked up as he spoke once again, dropping her arm to her side and offering him a small smile. It was good to know that she wasn't really that alone, even if she felt like it at the time. This person was nice. The others in this situation may very well be nice as well. And he was right. They were all in this together now.

... it was a little bit of consolation, at least.

"Shing and Hisui are going to be so worried when they notice me missing ..." Kohaku sighed, her expression falling a little bit as she thought about it. She knew Shing was going to freak out when he couldn't feel anything in his soma link, couldn't find her ... Hisui would flip out, too. And probably blame Shing.

But there would be time to think about that later, Kohaku had to remind herself.

"They may not notice." Mitsuhide rubbed the back of his head for a moment. "I have heard from captives that were returned back to their own worlds, and then brought back, that they were returned to the exact point in time they were brought from."

Which was a confusing thing to even think about. The samurai tried not to dwell on it very much. In Vatheon, sometimes you just had to accept what you had been told.

"It's best not to dwell on it overmuch, my Lady."

Not that Mitsuhide himself was good at stopping himself from dwelling, but...

"There is more you should, and it's very important. Within this city, we are sometimes affected by magic that is usually referred to as a curse, though the nature of this magic is not always bad. Sometimes it is good, sometimes, just... odd."

All of this at once was starting to confuse Kohaku. She wasn't entirely sure what was up and down in this place, and many of the concepts that she was just now learning about were things that were completely foreign to her.

Something about the 'curses' struck her as odd, though ...

"Curses ..? What are they like?"

Despir sickness? No, that couldn't be. He had said that there was also good to come out of these things, not just bad. Despir sickness had been pretty predominantly bad.

"It varies."

Mitsuhide tipped his head back and stared up at the dome above. He thought through the many curses he had experienced since arriving; odd, that so many of them were probably forgotten now. Once he had remembered each very clearly, but when you got used to them the more simple ones tended to get lost amongst the more dramatic memories.

"Perhaps it is best if I give examples? Once, we had toy ducks rain from the sky for a week. That was harmless, and rather fun once you got used to it. There was a time when we all woke up in masks and costumes that we could not remove. Then there was a fortnight where we got odd weather, which was in fact welcome. You do not realise you would miss something as simple as rain until you are denied it for so long."

He lowered his gaze, looking at Kohaku once more.

"There have been times when we have been attacked by odd creatures and put into real danger; things called 'dinosaurs,' and 'zombie mermaids.' The latter were eventually defeated by a blazing heat that I got caught in; it made me ill for weeks. I have heard that before I came here, there were curses that altered personalities too."

Mitsuhide laughed quietly, then, and rubbed the back of his head. He began to look a little embarassed.

"I can distinctly remember the time I was affected by a curse that meant I could not speak normally, only sing. I greeted many people that way."

No, definitely not despir sickness. Kohaku was relieved at that, but she also couldn't help the giggles she tried to suppress as she heard about things like raining toy ducks. Imagining them only made her giggles worse.

"T-These are so silly ..."
