[You may not notice him at first. He looks relatively ordinary, dressed in a loose white shirt and dark pants. He just blankly stares ( Read more... )

[The ex-general walks by about the same time as the man speaks and pauses to study him silently before finally deciding he really nothing to lose from asking the question raised by the last statement. So far most of his encounters here have been for the most part positive, thus he detours to walk toward the bench and stand before the man there, dressed in almost full uniform, save for the belt, chest straps and shoulder armor. He'd finished his teaching lesson with Silver not too long ago, thus the attire since he tended to carry the sword hidden within the long leather coat.]

Flawed? Just like back where?

[Jacob looks up, bright blue eyes seemingly staring through the man.]

Back where I come from.

[Lovely vague answer, though he supposed he should have expected it really.]

I see.

What did you mean by this place is flawed, if I might ask?

[You should get used to it, he's enigmatic in all sorts of ways.]

The people here are all flawed. Nobody is perfect. Everyone has their secrets, their skeletons in the closet...

But being flawed is not bad.

[This should be a rather interesting conversation then. He's slightly reminded in a way of Genesis due to the delivery of the answer.]

Of course.

If no one was flawed; then there would be no drive to improve oneself.

You are very correct in that, my friend.

[A smile.] Tell me, have you learned from your flaws...?

[The question gives him pause for a moment, it's a surprise to actually have someone bring up what flaws he might have instead of comment on he seems to excel at. His eyes close brief as he considers the question in all apparent seriousness before opening again to look back at the man.]

I do not know...

[It's an honest answer actually, since he's not really certain just what his flaws might be beyond his upbringing and he's not exactly sure just how one learns from such a flaw if you have no experience with what one might call a proper upbringing. He's never seen much need for being overly social with anyone but very few, until his arrival here and even here he doesn't really go out of his way to be social to anyone except for those whom catch his interest or run into him while out in town.]

[A nod. He understands.]

That's fine. You'll have a chance to look at them more closely here.

[Have a subtly curious look, head tilted slightly to one side as he studies the man anew. There's something...he just can't place what it is, but he's definitely different than those he's met already here. His words and manner have made that abundantly clear. He's not entirely certain why he answers as he does, but it's just as honest as his last statement. He has a feeling that lying to this man would serve no purpose at all.]

Perhaps...though I might need to actually discover just what they are before I can learn anything from them.

[His mouth quirks upward in a sort of half-smile at that.] And that, my friend, is really the greatest challenge in discovering one's self.

[The curiosity makes a brief return at that sentence though it doesn't stay for long, but then most of the man's expressions tend to be similar to the sun on a cloudy day, only briefly showing itself before hiding once again behind the clouds.]

The actual discovery of the flaws,...the learning from them or both?

It depends on the person. Some people hide them for so long that they forget that they were even there. And some people know that they're there, but don't do anything to learn from them.

And yes, it can sometimes be both.
