Indiana - Day 1

Aug 10, 2007 17:20

I've been back from Indiana for a week now, so I thought it about time to post some stuff about the trip. I kept a daily journal of what happened so instead of posting it all at once, I'll spread it out. Without further ado, I now present you:

Indiana - Day 1

26 July 2007 - 6:35PM Central Time

I’m sitting in the airport food-court right now in Indianapolis waiting for my mom and brother to arrive. They’re supposed to come in around 10:00PM so… I have to keep myself entertained until then. Woohoo!

My first flight left from LAX at 9:15AM for STL. Brian dropped me off at the Van Nuys FlyAway and I bought my $4 one way ticket with a $20. The machine decided to give me the change in Susan B. Anthony and Sacagawea $1 coins. Fun. I think I got a few of those new president coins as well. Can someone tell the US Mint that these dollar coins are pointless, annoying, and LOOK LIKE QUARTERS??

The trip to LAX was rather un-eventful which is nice since it was on the 405. Lots of traffic, but no close calls of death and since the bus wasn’t very full (at 6:45AM), no one sat next to me.

Once I got to my terminal, I went through the standard confusion/utter embarrassment that is “Airport Security” ..you know, take this off, put this there, and do a little dance, and then we’ll decide if we shall let you pass. While waiting on my flight I passed a bar where I saw two men sitting at a table, each with a laptop. Next to one laptop, sat a half-finished vodka tonic, and next to the other laptop, a half-finished dirty martini. Um… hello, it wasn’t even 9:00 o’clock in the morning yet! I passed them again a little later and the guy who had the vodka tonic seemed to be working on a Salty Dog or something. And the martini guy had moved on to a pint of beer. Now, I did see that Qantas Air flew in/out in the same terminal, so I can only hope that they had just arrived and were still on Australia time..? Who knows..

On board the flight, I sat down in my aisle seat-hooray!-(I prefer window seats if I’m sitting with people that will fill up the role, but otherwise I want an aisle seat so I don’t have to step over anyone in the event I should need to use the lavatory. By the way, why do we only use the term lavatory on board airplanes? Anyway I digress…) An older woman came and set her bag down in the middle seat, next to me. Then said allowed, “Well, might as well wait until the window person comes. No sense in sitting down until they come in.” She then proceeded to continue saying this to EVERY SINGLE PERSON around her…repeatedly. She seemed nice, but I was already dreading the impending flight, thinking that she would be talkative the whole time. Well, as it turned out, she ended up switching with a married couple (one American, one Australian) and they sat next to me. They slept most of the time, so it was nice for me.

Let’s see…what else about that flight? Oh! Did you know that airlines are getting even cheaper!? They didn’t even offer pretzels on this (3.5 hour) flight! We did get two drinks, however, and surprisingly they gave me the entire can both times (one ginger ale, and one bloody mary mix mmm). There were 32 rows on this flight (I know this because I was in # 31!) and I figured that comes to approximately 160 people on one flight. If everyone’s ticket was $100, then that means they would’ve made $16,000.00 on ONE flight. Now, this is very rough math, of course, but seriously?? No pretzels?? Anyway….

Well, this is getting long, and I haven’t even left the airport, so let’s try to wrap it up! My second flight was late arriving at the terminal to board us, which was actually very good because my 1st flight was a little late getting in to STL. But, off we went in a TINY airplane. It was probably about 18 - 20 rows max, but I couldn’t even stand up all the way, or I’d hit my head. Plus side is, the seat rows were in a 1 / 2 configuration so my seat was both a window AND aisle seat. :)

The flight attendant on that trip from STL to IND, I thought was a girl talking, but it turned out to be a man…. He actually looked a LOT like the old black power ranger haha But, he sounded like the pink one.. You do the math.

So, now we end where we started this entry… back in the airport food-court of Concourse C in Indianapolis, Airport. . . It’s almost 7:00PM now, so only 3 more hours to go!! …. Boo. I’m bored.
