The
Free State Project's 6th annual
Porcupine Freedom Festival kickoff was last night. I've been at
Roger's Campground all week, along with dozens of other early-arriving Porcupines. The activity level picks up all weekend and I'm excited to see how it all goes. We're expecting yet another record-shattering crowd.
So far, my visit has been busy but fun. I've spent most of my time here at the campground socializing with friends, new and old. Wednesday, I managed to hike Mt. Liberty for probably the 4th or 5th time. This year, only three of us made the summit. It was cloudy, but there was enough of a break to catch a nice view for a few minutes.
Last night, the crowd had grown considerably. The official kickoff event was surprisingly well attended considering it was a Thursday night and, in typical libertarian fashion, a number of attendees didn't attend. Maybe more surprising than the crowd was the response when Dr. Sorens asked how many were at Porc Fest for the first time. At least half the crowd (maybe a hundred people?) raised their hands. Wow...
More people will be coming throughout the weekend. There are over 400 registered now and, if history repeats itself, we'll easily break 500 attendees over the course of the entire event making this the largest Porc Fest ever.
Now, off to enjoy the rest of the event! ;)
