A Dwarf Garb Diary 11

Yawn!

I sat up sewing until 12-12.30 the last two nights so I’m pretty knackered. I’ve done so much that I’m losing track of what was done when…

SUNDAY
I sewed the zipper on the pants, so they’re done except for the hem. I adjusted some on the upper doublet pattern (yes AGAIN). This time it was just some small changes at the neck line, it was a little too low at the front and I wanted to adjust it before I made the pattern for the collar, which was made next. Then I cut out all pieces for the lining and pinned/stitched it. It became a sort of second dummy since I could double-check everything before the outer fabric got cut. It looked really good on him and one had to wonder why he’d been complaining about it being too tight; it looked great. The new neckline and sleeve opening were good too. The sleeve just got a little big after having put in that tinsy extra bit on the upper torso. I didn’t think it’d make a huge difference since it was only one cm more in total, but oh well.

MONDAY
So then on Monday I started out by changing the sleeve to make it just a little bit smaller precisely where it is joined to the upper torso pieces. Then I tested the collar lining and they looked a bit funky; Jo thought he looked like Elvis, so I trimmed them… There was some cutting and testing but turned out pretty ok in the end. We had really good teamwork going on, Jo zigzagging pieces of fabric (while simultaneously installing Windows Longhorn) while I pinned on patterns and cut the fabric. It felt good. So we covered most of the interlining and late at night we cut out and zigzagged the most important pieces of all - the outer layer! It was quite a hassle to lay the pattern out on the brocade in order to get it all to match between the pieces, but it turned out real nice! (Of course we had time to watch High Chaparral on TV too - ohmigods! Is all I’m saying.)
