Friday stuff

GK has sent me info regarding my 30th high school reunion, happening this July. However, as I told her, my memories of high school are not so joyous that I'm thrilled by the prospect of squandering two precious vacation days and paying $60+ dollars for the priviledge ( Read more... )

I bend over backwards to avoid most people I went to high school with and sure wouldn't pay money to do it. :D

I did go to my college 20th, which cost nothing, because it was just a cookies and coffee get-together in one of the meeting rooms on the historic old campus section where I'd lived. It was pretty much the same as always: the cool go-getters ran things and hung out together and the nerds stood in the corners and had tense conversations.

Yeah, there's a get-together with cash bar on Friday, and since I don't really drink as recreation, I'm not interested. Plus, like I said, taking a vacation day to do it in.

Most of my friends from HS were in a different year, anyway, and the ones I care about, I've kept up with.

I wouldn't be caught dead at my high school reunion because my high school experience was halfway between Carrie and Welcome to the Dollhouse (except my mom is not crazy and abusive, I didn't get blood dumped on me and my sister didn't get kidnapped, but those are the ONLY differences)

I've spent the last thirty-odd years thanking God that my dad won the battle to name me, otherwise *I* would've been named Carrie in high school, a prospect too horrid to be considered.

among every other indignity, I spent most of my high school career being called by the wrong name.

I did attend my 30th last summer--it was OK but not worth the $60 spent on a so-so dinner. I had never been to one and never will again, I am sure!

Even the possibility of single guys with who I theoretically have something in common with doesn't entice me. I can think of so many other things to do with the time AND money!

I'm waiting to read the fic until I see the movie...which hasn't happened yet, and several other people might be in the same position.

You couldn't pay me to go to another reunion. I went to my 10th, saw who I needed to see, said what I needed to say and that's the name of that tune.

I went to my 10th and was reminded why I loathed HS. The list of people I wish I was still in touch with is really, really short. And the odds of any of them showing up is really, really long. So what's the point? If I were inclined to cough up $60 for dinner, I could do Outback for less at my convenience!
