1. List your top ten favorite movies (10-1, in order of how much you like 'em)
2. Use one sentence and only one to describe why you think it's good
3. Tag four people and see how many of you love the same movies.
Of course, y'all know that I don't tag people, right? And I'm doing it in alphabetical order, because picking a favorite is damn near impossible.
Auntie Mame - It's all so over the top---from the dry wit of Roz Russell to the sets and costumes as the ultra-conservative 50s looks at the 20s and 30s with madcap panache.
Birdcage (The) - Because watching Robin Williams and Nathan Lane play off each other is almost as much fun as seeing Gene Hackman in drag.
Escape From New York - Kurt Russell in his prime---need I say more?
Fantasia - IMO, the epitome of hand-drawn animation.
Hopscotch - This relic of the cold war is still wonderful fun, with a terrific cast: Walter Matthew and Glenda Jackson are espionage's equivalent of Nick and Nora Charles, Ned Beatty is at his obnoxious best, and look for Sam Waterston when he was young and cute.
Logan's Run - I wouldn't be lying if I said I loved this dystopia even before I knew what a dystopia was, but the truth is, I wanted to shag most of the leads (yes, including Jenny and Farrah)--major, major love for Richard Jordan and Michael York.
Oscar - My all-time favorite under-rated screwball comedy (yes, including Some Like It Hot and What's Up Doc?), with a vast and awesome cast---IMDb it if you don't believe me!---top notch fluff!
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl - It was either this one or Swashbuckler, because who doesn't love two hours of sword-fights, hot pirates and feisty heroines?
Pitch Black - After long and thoughtful contemplation, this won out as the Vin Diesel movie I'd most want to be stranded on a desert island with.
Shawshank Redemption (The) - This started out as my favorite Stephen King story ever; Frank Darabont did a phenomenal job translating it to the screen and he would've gotten Oscars for it, had it not come out the same year as Forrest-goddamnGump.
Looking for a common theme, most of them are movies I can quote in unison with the dialogue, or at least hum along with the soundtrack. There's lot of testosterone, a lot of laughs, not a great deal of dramatic or intellectual weight. (There's a reason I'm VanillaFLUFFY.)
