Raised Expectations

Buffy Summers continues to surprise me.

When she was brought into the Initiative, I thought she was over her head, "Chosen One" or not. When Walsh's pet Frankenstein started causing problems, I thought modern science would prevail over some sorority bimbo and her overmatched friends. When I returned to Sunnydale and began to eliminate whatever vulnerabilities we as vampires had against the Slayer, I thought she'd fold like a tent in a Florida hurricane. And this past week, I thought for sure she and her friends would fall to those forces behind that insipid carnival.

I mean, clowns? Parasitic clown demons? The fact that something like those things existed made me think Summers didn't have a chance.

She's proven me wrong every time. In some ways, I have to respect her for that, as a warrior. Oh, I'll still have to kill her eventually. But I respect her.

The only problem is, in proving me wrong, she's proving to be more of an obstacle than I'd expected. And I don't like surprises.

After I was turned, I learned of Adam's final plan to neutralize Summers by eliminating her support structure. Her friends. He enlisted Hostile 17's help, but the endeavor failed miserably. The fact that Hostile 17 now sits comfortably at the right hand of the Slayer like some kind of lapdog only further proves the point that Adam's thinking was pitifully flawed.

But the concept isn't without its merits.

I think I may need to pay a visit to young Mr. Finn soon. At worst, I'll feed his spleen to the boys on a silver platter. At best, I'll have a new lieutenant of my own...
