Wow. I got way more than I bargained for on Sunday at Metalfest, and I mean that in a good way. The moment I walked in, I heard beautiful sounds coming from the second stage upstairs. These sounds were being produced by a Canadian band called "Howling Sin." They resemble a heavier Tristania in their style, but I still enjoyed it very much. Chatted with them afterwards and got to enjoy their adorable accents and stare droolingly at the female singer. What sucks is that I did not get a chance to buy their album when I could have. Oh well, I will find them again.

Behemoth was way better than I expected. Evil was in the air when these Polish devils came on stage, and they also served as a refreshing break from all of the hardcore crap that polluted the air otherwise. I must find their new album "Demigod." Oh, and the lead singer has the biggest forehead on the planet, and is unable to pronounce "Worcester" because he is just too evil and Polish.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention: everything was pushed ahead of schedule, so all bands went on about an hour earlier than originally planned. Very cool.

3 Inches of Blood...wow, the metal scene needed more cheese. Let me just say: any band that has a song called "Kill The Orcs" CANNOT be bad. If there is anyone on my friends list who would appreciate this band, it would be the one known as Frosty, although he may be pissed that the lead singer totally stole his power metal vocal style. ;-)

And then, Hypocrisy hit the stage, which began the countdown of bands to the King himself. Hypocrisy was nice. I was never a huge fan of them, but they certainly know what they are doing. Dark Tranquility was unbelievable. The lead singer was practically swimming in the crowd, making sure to clasp everyone's outstretched hand and give everyone a good Swedish smile, all while screaming the glory that is this melodic death metal band. They opened up with "Treason Wall." Very, very cool. Soilwork was amazing, though not as amazing as Dark Tranquility. They played much of their new album which was to be expected, but touched very little on anything before Figure Number Five. Disappointing, but still worth seeing. Nile is good in small doses, but not for the time they were on. Fortunately, I managed to keep myself amused by staring into the male pattern crater of the lead singer's head.

Finally...after numerous chants exonerating King Diamond, the King arrived, brooding over the coffin of Abigail. After plunging a knife through an infant prop's head, the show was underway. I cannot even begin to describe the King's stage presence, nor the theatrics he had going on stage. After running through most of Abigail and Abigail II, followed by The Eye, followed by a couple of tracks from The Puppet Master and concluding with some stuff off of Them, the King bid us goodnight. After about 5 minutes of further chanting and stomping, the King returned for an encore. This was subsequently followed by ANOTHER encore! He ended the show with the song "Evil" by Mercyful Fate. We all wanted it to go on for longer, but alas, that was all. Nevertheless, I was sated, my ears blasted and throat eviscerated from within. It was a night of metal to be remembered forevermore.

I left Worcester with about 9 new cds, including the new double album release by Therion. I can't wait to actually buy speakers for this computer so I can listen to all these wonderful cds I now own. That's all for now. Hail and kill.
