Alright, if that teensy thing Cordy needed to fix was so teensy, why isn't she back yet? I called Buffy to see what was up, and she didn't seem to know anything about it. Yes, Cordy's staying with her but they don't seem to be spending much time together. So the good news is there's no budding apocalypse in Sunnydale, but then what the hell is ( Read more... )

I can see Angel sittin’ downstairs broodin’ from my vantage point on the balcony on the second floor, looks as though he’s tryin’ to decide somethin’ and judging from the huff F’s been in, he’s lookin’ to find some answers. “Woody said you were lookin’ for me?”

I look up and smile at her. She's really starting to come out of her shell lately. "I was going to go see if I could dig up some info and wondered if you wanted to come along. Check out some seedy demon bars--could be a lot of fun," I say, trying to sound tempting.

“Throw in the possibility of somethin’ alcoholic and that sounds like a good night,” I tease, raisin’ an eyebrow at him. I walk down the stairs to the second floor. “Is this about that woman?” I try to sound casual ‘bout it but can’t seem to hide the cheer in my voice. F ain’t the only one that wants to catch up with her.

I slip on my purple jacket an’ look aroun’ for the others. Looks like it’s just the two of us, ‘less Woody wants to come along, but he seems more like to want to talk to me alone. So I guess I’ll catch ‘em when we get back.

"Yeah, the mystery woman who got in Faith's face--I think we need to find out what she's doing," I say, getting up and going to join her. I stop by the weapons cabinet and take out a few choice items that are easy to hide, tucking them into the pockets of my coat. "You don't just decide to mess with a slayer without having some...bigger agenda, and whole lot of balls. So I figure she might have been mouthing off around town. She seems sloppy."

“I dunno, she seemed like a pump the way she wa’ sweatin’,” I shrug and pull out an axe -Woody’s been teachin’ me the names o’ the weapons the last few days-I sneak it into the back o’ my pants. Sure, it’s conspicuous, it ain’t my scythe either -Woody taught me that one too-but it gets the job done. I settle on puttin’ a stake in my sleeve as well, doubtin’ I’ll be needin’ it.

I frown at that bit of information. Faith had been too upset to really describe her in detail. "What, like she'd been running from something, maybe? Or she was nervous?" A lot of things could make someone sweat--it was one of those things that vampires didn't really need to do, like breathing. We're both geared up, so I move toward the door.

“She was runnin’,” I say, pushin’ open the doors to lead us outside. “But tha’s not what I meant.” Toy, how do I describe it? “’s like she wa’ takin’ somethin’. Drugs. She was shakin’, looked furious when she realized who she’d bumped into, too.”

“Tha’s jus’ my opinion, bet she jus’ wanted to get far from the fire as possible. Didn’t want to be implicated or summin’.”

"There was a fire?" I ask, walking through the courtyard to the street and turning left. "I think Oz and Faith left out that part. What fire?" The suggestion that the girl was on drugs was bad news, too. It would make her really unpredictable.

"Hunh, can' blame 'em," I say, falling into step beside Angel. "They were more interested in her."

I walk along the gutter, tryin' to balance myself on it. Doin' pretty well too until I damn near walked into a pole, "Hunh, well, while they were 'vestigating her, I went to the fire, wen' in to help people. Only they weren't people. It was a place for demons," I come to a stop, look up at Angel with a frown. "She killed 'em all. You think if she did that to a place like that she might've done somethin' before."

"She killed all fo them?" I ask, shocked. Sounds like we aren't talking an ordinary woman here. "That's quite a feat. But if she's a vampire or demon, Faith would sense it. Oz too, so drugs." I cross my arms, trying to puzzle it out without being too distracted by Melaka's gymnastics. "Steroids, maybe. Or PCP, something that would give her a lot of adrenaline. Possibly something mystical."

"Or all of the above," I say, stretchin' out my arms.

"The way the last survivor was sayin' it, she's been terrorizin' the community for a while, there's a chance she might be 'round. But Ozzy said she wa' pretty banged up when she took her ride, so maybe not."

"Mutan--Demons in the area might point us to 'er. Where she lives, if we're lucky," Damn, I just love puzzlin' things out.

"Yeah, it could be a combination of things, you're right. Why don't you show me the neighborhood where the fire was?" I say. Melaka's got a lot of common sense about these things, I'm beginning to notice, now that she's not hiding away in her room. "Could be we'll find someone willing to talk."

"Sure, it ain't all that far, 'cept I think we're goin' in the wrong direction," I add, turning right an' motionin' for Angel to follow me.

"Talk, squeal. We'll find somethin'." A few minutes pass in silence, I pull out my stake and use it as a baton, twirlin' it an' such, before I finally ask, "What do you know about Wood?"

I push my hands into my coat pockets and follow her. "Not that much. I was in the future with you when he showed up. I guess there were some mobsters after him and he thought I could help. He's pretty damn good at the demon fighting, though--I'd guess he's had a lot of training in that area." I'd gotten the feeling that he didn't totally trust me, being a vampire, but there was nothing new about that.

“Hunh. I can’t seem to get a hold of him, he’s fast, strong, muscular-“ where was I going with this? “But solitary, I dunno, there’s somethin’ ‘bout that I just don’t like. Funny though, considerin’ I’m ‘The Chosen One’, hunh?”

“He’s nice enough, I just don’t understan’ ‘im. He’s been teachin’ me how to use some o’ the weapon’s you got downstairs, so I guess he ain’t all bad.” I muse, leadin’ Angel down the alleyway, I’m sure he can figure out which building burned down.
