[OOC] Kanaya's Chainsaw/Lipstick
Since I would've had to explain this anyway, have an information post about Kanaya's chainsaw/lipstick in Sorting Hat!
For obvious reasons, she can't have a muggle chainsaw at a place like Hogwarts, so the solution was to create a magic fueled one. How does this work, you ask? Well, first of all, let's look at this chainsaw/lipstick animation!
The chainsaw is made of metal, white with black blades, and entirely fueled by magic; the only thing it has in common with its muggle equivalent is its structure. The 'box' part of it is completely hollow save for a device that emits the chainsaw sound-- this device is either a howler or some kind of wizarding recording / transmission device which I haven't decided on.
Functionality wise, it requires two basic components: the movement of the blades, which is caused by a motion / movement charm, and the sound, which I have mentioned above.
The lipstick is... well, a lipstick. Half jade green and half black, to be precise.
This is all fine and good, but why does she even have a chainsaw in the first place?
The most obvious answer is "because she has one in canon and her mun wants her to have one in game too", but the IC answer to this is "chainsaws were mentioned in one of the muggle romance novels she read, she didn't know wtf they were and decided to investigate, and promptly fell in love".
Like in canon, she will use it for landscaping, although this will probably only happen when she's back home; Dumbledore probably wouldn't fancy it too much if Kanaya went around practicing the fine art of topiary in Hogwarts grounds with her magic chainsaw, after all.
Okay, we've got that cleared. But where the hell is she going to keep her chainsaw and how do I know my character won't stumble upon it?
Kanaya's chainsaw isn't a muggle chainsaw, which means that it won't work if you do something as simple as press a button or... however you turn an actual chainsaw on. Because it's brought to life by magic, it takes a few incantations to be turned on/off, and for the sound to be activated as well.
However, there are a few things that should be taken into consideration regarding general safety, when it comes to this particular chainsaw:
1) When she isn't using it-- which will be most of the time, of course, because this is not Homestuck canon so Kanaya doesn't have a reason to have her chainsaw with her at all times (and she will only use it in certain circumstances)-- Kanaya keeps transfigured into her lipstick.
2) In addition to that, she asked Dorian "Doc Scratch" Sharp-- a professor and her surrogate father-- to charm it, so that her chainsaw/lipstick will only recognize her wand. In addition, he has cast a few protection charms and a tracking spell, just to be safe.
Needless to say, if you want to have your character find her chainsaw/lipstick for whatever reason, poke me first and we can plot things out.
