Happy New Year!

Just checking in here to join in all the well-wishing for 2024. Here's to hoping that it will be a good one ...

Also, I just finished listening to Hester Fox's "The Widow of Pale Harbor". Now, I don't know what the official genre for this is, but I would called it gothic romance. This is leaning very heavily on the the romance-side of things with a side dish of mystery and a bit of uneery atmosphere. The book was bad - the style overly verbose, the plot very see-through. All in all very paint-by-the-numbers. I actually cringed when the one sex scene of the book occured, because it felt so out of place and was so badly written. But while I was listening, I was thinking: I would like something like this in good. Do books like those exist, a marriage of romance and gothic literature? And please don't say "Jane Eyre"!
