I whine about inconveniences

Annoyed today! My phone is bricked. It just... stopped responding. Won't do a hard reset. Shop says repairs start at £60. I'm scoping for replacements; I'm seriously considering a straight replacement, as I love my phone (The T-mobile G1/HTC Dream), but on the other hand it is three years old and doesn't do all I could wish for. So I'm covetously eyeing a HTC Desire Z, which is a year old and has the fold out keyboard I love. It's considerably pricier, though.

I'm lusting after the latest shiny, of course, but be damned if I'm paying £500 for a phone. I don't do contracts, as I rarely make calls and hardly ever text, so I have to outright buy the handset. At the moment, I'm holding body and soul together by surfing on my Kindle when I'm out. It's... actually okay? And I have free 3G, so.

Almost tempted to abandon phone entirely; but there are those couple of people who stay in touch by text. And I do like having pocket-sized internet.

As a result, I have no alarm clock at the moment. VERY annoying. I try to get up at six to be in work at seven. I really need a reliable alarm for this, as I generally fail at sleep.

Also, our boiler is broken, so no hot water. SO I have to go to the basement at work to shower when I leave tonight, sigh. (Also no heating. Not a problem right now, as we are hardy and had not put it on yet, but soon will be troublesome.)

On the bright side, my classes are going well - I did a presentation, and I think did well, convincing argument and reference to primary and secondary sources. And in the seminar, I knew pretty much all the answers. Another presentation for the other class next week, and then with those out of the way I can start work on this term's essay. Trying to really keep up with my background reading this year. My Kindle is helpful, as a lot of journal articles are in PDF form, and they can go on the Kindle. May experiment with note-taking facility.

Also, first go I posted this to LJ. I don't seem to be very connected today...
