The Mist missed

This week was a friend of mine's birthday and he has a tradition of going to a movie and taking those of us that are his friends with him, and his poor wife.  Last year it was Apocolypto, which I didn't mind, but both his wife and my brother could not stand.  That was the only other year that I went with them, but the number of misses in his years with this tradition greatly outnumber the hits.

This year he first said he wanted to see I Am Legend, even though it was the next week.  Apparently he decided that he wanted to see The Mist instead, and it was closer to his birthday.  I was very much against this since I didn't really want to see it, but since I am going to see The Golden Compass with my father this weekend, probably at least, I wouldn' thave wanted to see it with my friend anyway.  So I went, and luckily I ddin't end up having to pay.

I believe, though I could be wrong, that The Mist is the worst movie I have ever seen.  Keep in mind I don't mind thrillers at times, I don't mind horror movies at times, there have been some Stephen King movies I liked (and others I didn't).  I tried to go in with an open mind... but unfortunately the movie slammed the door shut.  It was horribly long, it felt like unending torture.  The acting was horrible, made for tv bad.  It was boring, there was not any real amount of tension built up, nor were there many shock moments, there weren't even that many good lines in the movie.  Overall it had nothing I can recommend about it.

The only good side is I got to talk to a friend from High School that I haven't seen since we graduated.  We didn't talk for long, but I did remember a few good times instantly, and it was good to see her again.  So the night was not a total loss.  Of course, I did get to hang out with the birthday friend, and have some fun conversation, and mock him for picking that movie as well.  So there were good points to the night, but the movie almost overshadowed the others.
