So yesterday I sat down and watched Green Day: Bullet In a Bible, the live DVD interspersed with interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, directed by the almighty Sam Bayer.
It was beautiful.
I mean, Dookie was big when I was in junior highschool back in 1995, and probably half the student body at my school were at their sold-out show in JCC (where My Chem would play 13 years later, imagine that), so watching them perform live at the peak of the phenomenal success of American Idiot was extremely exhilarating.
I was never a devoted fan of their music, there are a few songs here and there that I like, but you'd have to have lived under a rock for the last five years to not be aware of the impact American Idiot not only on their careers, but on music as a whole. My Chemical Romance played in a Green Day tribute show, and it's not hard to see why. They are awesome musicians, great personalities, and people who have something important to say.
The interview footage was also beautifully shot, with alternating angles and extreme closeups of Billie Joe, Mike and Tre, with moments of high-contrast black-and-white footage and honest commentary from all of them. The concert footage was also incredible, with 65 thousand people singing along to every song and Billie Joe really owning the crowd.
No words, guys, seriously. It's just so fucking beautiful and inspiring.
