Chapter 1

Heechul's POV

When I entered the human world, there was chaos. I was in this forest that was so dark. It smelled like rain, but in the distance you could see a huge fire. Usually, I love fire. However, that fire seemed too large to be anything but warm and lively. Fire should be controlled, and I could hear screaming. So I flew to where the fire was.

Emerging out of the forest, I froze. There were these… what are those? Huge boxes that were taller than the fire. There was this grey thing in the middle and more weird stuff scattered everywhere. Even the humans were huge. I was probably only the size of their hands.

The humans were screaming, and I saw this elderly woman being held back by two younger men. She was screaming.

“Hankyung! My Hankyung is in there!”

What was a Hankyung? Was that a name?

The two boys were trying to say something but I couldn’t hear. I was hiding in this tree from the distance and people were too noisy. Then a group of people who were beside me started talking.

“I wonder if he’ll get out. He only ran into the apartment to save those kids.”

“He already saved three, but I doubt that he could get out with the two. He’s been there for too long and the firefighters haven’t returned yet.”

Is that what they call it? Apartment? Okay, so, the apartment was burning and a “Hankyung” was in there and someone was trying to save two children. There were child fairies and I don’t like children being hurt. Because I don’t get burned, I flew into the apartment. Thanks to my size, no one noticed me.

When I entered the apartment, I tried calling out, “Hey! Is there anyone here?” I tried shouting but I doubt that no one could hear me because of my size. Still, I tried. I flew around until I heard crying. It was coming from inside this box thing… I guessed it was the version of a human room. So I ran into it and was surprised.

There was this man lying face first on the floor and there were two children sitting beside him. The man was unconscious and the children were just crying. They were scared, and there was this, a piece of the ceiling, I believe, beside the man’s head. Being around human fire, I didn’t feel hot nor was I burned when I just flew through it. I just didn’t know if I could control it. So I flew to the fire and started playing with it. To my surprise, I could control it. So I flew back to the man and the children. I flew to the man’s feel and hid behind these…. Shoes? We have shoes in Incantare, but these shoes looked different from ours. Anyways, I hid behind it and created a barrier big for all of us. The children immediately stopped crying and stared at the barrier. I smiled. They were safe with me around.

Rescuers… firefighters?... came later on. I released them from the barrier and all of them were taken to safety. I was worried about the man, though, so I followed him.

We ended in this place called a hospital. The man was brought to a room where people in white were checking on him. When they were done, an elderly couple walked in. The woman was the woman I saw screaming earlier. Two young men followed and entered the room, and those two young men were the ones who were holding the elderly woman. Well, the woman wasn’t exactly old but she already had those wrinkles and such.

I watched them from behind this plant that was at the corner of the room.

“He’s such a righteous kid,” said the woman as she sat beside the unconscious man.

“Righteous,” the elderly… okay, not really that old but older than the rest… man scoffed. “Stubborn and blind is more like it.” He sat beside the woman. “He should know better than to just run into a burning building.”

One of the younger men spoke, “Hankyung was just trying to save the children. He heard them screaming and so he ran into it.”

The other of the younger two spoke. “He’s still an idiot. He could’ve died.”

The man was called Hankyung. I’ve never heard that name before. Later on, Hankyung woke up. The people around him seemed relief and they said that he would be released the next day. Then, someone came in and asked the people, except Hankyung, to leave, and so they did.

Alone with Hankyung, I watched him. He was a handsome man with such a kind smile. I could tell that he was a kind man too for he risked his life to save those kids.

Hankyung turned on this box thing and I was startled. Light came out of that light and there were people inside of it! I was like… I don’t know. I was flabbergasted. I was speechless. I just stared at it.

Then Hankyung fell asleep. I wanted to try something. Donghae told me stories about how fairies can access human’s dreams by touching their heads while asleep. Of course, there needed to be a spell. Of course, Donghae told me the spell. He said he heard it from someone, and I was curious to try it. So I flew to Hankyung’s side. I sat beside his head, casted the spell, and touched his hand.

I entered his dream.

We were in this… what room was this. It was filled with mirrors and he was standing in the middle staring at me through the mirrors. I looked at myself through the mirror and I was the same size at him. So I grinned. I looked at him. I wanted to talk to him, so I walked to him and he asked me, “Who are you?”

I smirked. “My, you don’t even know the face of your hero.”

“Hero?” He faced me. “Seriously, what are you talking about? And what is that costume and those wings?”

I frowned. “I am one of the prettiest fairies out there, just to let you know, and I love my wings.” I reached back to touch it. “You can touch it. It’s soft.” My wings weren’t like scales, it was made of feathers wherein there were two small tails dangling from the bottom of my wings. Like my outfit, my wings were red, but it took more of an orange hue. I loved my wings, but Hankyung looked disgusted as he took a few steps back. I frowned at him. “Excuse me, you really don’t know who you’re talking to.”

“This is a dream,” he laughed, “I know this is a dream, and whatever I think would happen in dreams would happen.”

“What are you saying?”

“We’re in this dance studio,” he opened his arms, “so let’s go to a forest.” Immediately, our environment turned into a forest that I smiled. This was the environment that I like.

“Hey,” I walked closer to him, “so, the place that we were at was a dance studio?”

He nodded. “This is one crazy dream,” and he started to walk away. “This is seriously one crazy dream.”

I frowned. I didn’t like his attitude, and so I flew up and grabbed him. He screamed and I pulled him up in the air.

“Let me go!”

“No!” I laughed as we flew up into the air. “You’re very rude so I’m going to show you what I can do!” We flew in the air and all he did was scream and scream and scream. So I finally put him down and I placed him on a tree. He sat on a branch and hugged the trunk. It was funny to see. “What are you doing?” He shouted at me as I flew beside him.

“I just want to show you what I can do,” I smiled. “Would you want me to leave?”

“Put me down first!”

I didn’t want to. Instead, I left his dream and went back to where I was, beside his head. I flew and stood on his chest. His face was scrunching that I laughed. I wanted him to know that I was real, and the fairy King never spoke about how people weren’t supposed to know about us. He just didn’t want us to develop human emotions, and he was convinced that we would all return to Incantare because the human world was a mess compared to our world.

I really wanted to wake Hankyung up, so I made a small flame in my hand and blew it to Hankyung’s nose where it made a small pop. Immediately, Hankyung opened his eyes. He saw me, and he screamed. I covered my ears, and then he sat up and pushed himself back on the bed. Flying in front of him, I grinned. “Still think that I’m not real?”

He pointed a shaking finger at me. “W-who are you?”

“Greetings!” I opened my arms wide. “My name is Heechul and I am a fairy from the land of Incantare!”

He wouldn’t believe me. He seriously wouldn’t believe me. He kept saying that he was dreaming, or that he could be having hallucinations because the doctors could have given him drugs. So I told him everything and forced him to tell me what a doctor and what a hospital was.
When I finished with my explanation, I sat on his knee and he just stared at me. “So….” He started, “you’re a fairy. Fairies are real. There is a place called Incantare.”

I nodded. I flew to him and told him, “I would need to go now, so where do you live? I want to visit you when I return!”

He refused to tell me, so I created a ball of flame in my hand and threatened to burn his nose. He gulped and gave me directions. I couldn’t understand, though, so I just stayed by his side. When he returned home that morning, I followed. I found out that the elderly couple was his parents and that he lived near the forest where I came from. So once he reached his room, I left. He seemed glad, but I was definitely going to visit him soon. He thought he was crazy, but he totally wasn’t.

When I returned to Incantare, Kangin was mad. Kangin was like my brother. I don’t know if he’s my real brother, but we appeared in Incantare together. He was burly buff guy who was too protective of me. He was always worried, and so I honestly think that he was my older brother when we were alive.

Anyways, he was mad at me for disappearing and I told him that I was just flying around. He went on and on about how I disappeared longer than usual, and I just smiled at him.

Like me, Kangin had the same markers as I. He had golden rings around his arms. Usually, if two or more fairies have the same markers, they were related in one way when they were alive. It could be that they were blood related, they were friends, or they could have died together or died the same way.

Unlike me, Kangin controlled Earth.

Donghae and Kibum asked me where I came from also. I returned to Incantare via their little lake, but they weren’t there when I returned.
Donghae and Kibum were both water fairies with the same markers and they arrived at the same time too. They had pearls on their faces, specifically, around their eyes. Donghae’s pearls were around his left eye, Kibum’s was on her right.  Also, Donghae’s eyes were not of the same color. His left eye was dark brown like Kibum but his right eye was grey. We don’t know what it meant, but the King said that it was also a marker of some sort. Donghae and Kibum were inseparable and they were also sure that they were related, that they didn’t just die together in some sort of… I don’t know. Mass murder? Natural disaster? Last time we had around two hundred people enter Incantare. The King said that it was a natural disaster.

Oh well.

I couldn’t wait to visit Hankyung again. I want to learn about the human world. It was completely different from ours.
