sou chef extraordinaire!

So for the last four days, I have been baking and cooking, everything from snickerdoodles and raspberry lemon pie to eggplant cassaroles, mac & cheese, sage cornmeal dressing, cranberry orange bread and streuseled sweet potatos and glazed ham. Russ made chicken bog one night, chili one night and ham & limas one night. It was somewhat handicapping working in a kinda unfamiliar kitchen and with limited cookware, baking dishes, etc., but I guess when you don't really cook, you don't need all that stuff. The guys were extremely pleased with having real food around the house. Everything did turn out nicely and we fed about 18 peeps Thursday afternoon. My sister had taken to her bed early in the week and only appeared briefly at odd times throughout the day or evening. Monday through Wednesday, elevator installers were at their house getting the lift in from the living room to the master bedroom. She's having dificulty with the steps and their house is multi-level.
All in all, and considering how well off I am, it was a most pleasant Thanksgiving. I was grateful also to return home on Friday and sleep in my own bed. I was grateful this morning for coffee from my Bunn and for Russ to be putzin' around in the shed with an idea towards enclosing my backporch. I washed Stinky today and she is snoring at my feet in a sunbeam. It's chilly outside and I'm thankful for a heat pump and a long-sleeved shirt. I'm thankful for my steaming cup of mulled cider and the turkey smells wafting off the porch. Since there was no smoker in Virginia, we decided to smoke our turkey when we got back home yesterday.
It's 2 in the afternoon and I hear a nap calling my name ...
