Movie Quotes Revealed

Remember the movie quote meme I posted?  Well, my dear friend Alex responded & wanted to know what all the movies were.  Here are the answers in case you're curious, too.  Oh, and I have lots of favorites that aren't on here; these just happen to be the ones that came to mind first.

A. Why do you think I'm calling you? Just to say hello?... *Of course* I like to speak to you!... *Of course* I like to say hello!
That's from Dr. Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.  Great, sometimes uncomfortable, comedy about the cold war and a nuclear standoff.  Peter Sellers and George C. Scott are both brilliant in it.  The quote is from the American president speaking to the Russian premier on the phone.

B. You know, it's an ugly business doing one's duty... but just occasionally it's a real pleasure.
That's something Jason Isaac's Colonel Tavington says in The Patriot.  Totally evil, totally hot, character.  It was the first time I'd ever seen Jason Isaacs, and I was hooked.  Even though he's on the wrong side.  The rest of the movie is great, too.

C. Has it ever crossed your brilliant mind that I don't want to do this anymore?
Come on, HP fans!  That's from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince!  Snape says it to Dumbledore.

D. Here, you can take that, you want to keep that, as a souvenir of your first abortion, ay. You can feel like you've done one of these too.
One of my favorite sci-fi movies, District 9.  Absolutely brilliant.  Great story, great effects.  I made my husband go with me, and he thought he'd be completely bored, but he was hooked from the first moment he saw one of the aliens.

E. Do you believe in destiny? That even the powers of time can be altered for a single purpose? That the luckiest man who walks on this earth is the one who finds... true love?
Another of my big-time crushes, Gary Oldman's Dracula.  Need I say more?

F. This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
Another of my favorite sci-fi movies.  Hal says that in 2001: A Space Odyssey.  There is so much silence in that movie, it never lets you forget you're in the vacuum of space.  Beautiful soundtrack.  And Hal is...wow.

G. When you're slapped, you'll take it and like it.
When Humphrey Bogart's character Sam Spade says that in The Maltese Falcon, I always find myself nodding.  Classic Bogart.

H. I got somethin' planned for your wife and kid that they ain't nevah gonna forget.
The original Cape Fear.  Robert Mitchum's Max Cady says that to Gregory Peck's Sam Bowden.  I like both versions, but I think I prefer this one.  Much more understated and ominous.  Oh, and I have a thing for Robert Mitchum.

I. Are you still believin' in that big bearded Boss up there? You think he's watchin' us?
Cool Hand Luke himself says that, played by Paul Newman.

J. I have less than a year to live. When I found that out... somehow I was drawn to you. Once when I was a child, I almost drowned. It's just like that feeling. Darkness everywhere, and nothing for me to hold onto, no matter how hard I try. There's just you.
I'm a big Akira Kurosawa fan.  This line is from Ikiru, said by one of my favorite actors of all time, Takashi Shimura, as Kanji Watanabe.  It seems like a boring movie at first, but it draws you in completely.  Or rather Shimura does.

And there you have it.  I could have chosen well-known lines from a few of those movies, but where would be the fun in that?
