The only true language is art. The only true comprehension of mood, tone, and feeling can be conveyed through music or colours, images, etc. Language itself is very dry. It has formed due to necessity. It was spawned through business, and security. If all of our basic needs were met without verbal interaction being absolutely necessary, language ( Read more... )

Thank you. Actually, my friend Nate said something else more or less disagreeing with me so this is further clarification if you care:

The only thing I can really appreciate about language is the sound of the vowels, the harshness of the “S” and the “T” conveying a certain tone, and the drawn out and longing sound “L” and “W”... There’s a wonderful song by Ulver actually called “Vowels” and it really captures this mood of languished love. It’s melancholic and lonely and wonderfully lachrymose not because of what the words are saying, but because of which sounds he chose for the lyrics. I’m not sure if it was done on purpose or not. When I listen to the song I barely recognize the lyrics- it only becomes this jumble of emotion and loss. I only hear his use of delicate consonants and vowels; this is what I mean.

As much as some would fancy themselves masters of the pen, very few actually are. For the most part I think the use of language as an art has been lost. Also, when I say the words disappear I don’t literally mean disappear of course. I only mean that their specific and strict definitions are lost. If it were a vase for example, the word vase would be lost and all that would remain would be the idea and concept of a vase. It occurs on a much larger and more complex scale with energy, because it is absolutely ephemeral and therefore difficult to have a tight grasp on.
