I thought it was Cursive that was going to be on Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight...but it's The Cure. The Curiosa promo sites are confusing. Cool to see The Cure anyway. How much cooler would it have been though to have just seen Cursive at the funkiest, capacity-200, back-door-entrance venue in Fresno just a few hours ago and then tune in to them on national TV? So, they were pretty darn good, I'd say. I never really listened to Cursive too much, but I know a lot of people are crazy about that band. I do think Tim Kasher has a really good voice, even if it's of the typically soaring, passionate, sometimes screamy, "emo" style that so many bands have adapted now. He's also a pretty uncompromising performer. I always admire artists who have a real good feel for how to perform and give their all without seeming the least bit silly, because for me the stage is a land of uncertainty...you know, as to what I'm supposed to do with myself in addition to playing my instrument. Pinkeye was quite a mis-matched opener as I anticipated we would be, but it was a good opportunity for exposure and to play for a slightly different crowd than normal. Where did all those new rock 'n' roll kiddies come from anyway???...high school I'm guessing. Crazy. They need to be converted from whatever they are now into kids who go to Pinkeye/Sparklejet/No Cello/Sleepover/It'll Grow Back/etc. shows. I guess that would require more all ages shows, which sort of alienates the usual crowd. Starline is the only place where all ages can be done w/ booze still served, but booking shows there is a formalized pain in the ass. I suppose it wouldn't make a difference anyway without Cursive-status headliners.

It's so funny...I knew, I knew, I knew that clementine and I had maybe gone to high school together. I had this vague memory of a girl at YHS that reminded me so much of her and it turns out it WAS her. She was only there for a year and she had really short hair then, which was the one thing that skewed my knowing for absolute sure it was the same person. Those sorts of discoveries are so much fun.

And speaking of discoveries...I just discovered the very first Queens Of The Stone Age album through Wade and it's the greatest fucking thing ever!!! I had downloaded a couple MP3s from it a while back and liked 'em quite a bit, but that's the album you rarely see in the stores (since it wasn't released on a major label), so I never picked it up. It's so much better than the two Interscope albums though. I love it when you find an album you really like and you get the "where-has-this-been-all-my-life" feeling...it happens to me so rarely now. Anybody who doesn't like this record, doesn't like rock 'n' roll. I guess it's basically a Josh Homme solo album too (he plays everything but drums), which proves to me that it was definitely the goat-bearded, metal dude bass player who messed with what would have been an otherwise perfect formula, 'cause it's the songs that that guy sings which create an inconsistent-ness on the other albums. QOTSA are the best blend of big ballsy riffage and catchy hooks out there...period. I've just decided. Wow.
