Hi, everyone. :) It's been a long while, I know---the summer was and the semester has been really busy and, like ladyadeone, I've been on tumblr more recently, which has it's upsides and it's downsides ( Read more... )

GIMP: Have you looked on the View menu and to see if Status bar (?) is checked?

...Coincidentally, I just finished a fan-fiction epic that mixed movie-verse and comic-verse about Captain America and the Winter Soldier and the Avengers... that and tumblr-osmosis makes up about what I know on the subject. ;))

I eventually got it back but now I don't remember how I did that. :">

Huh. How was it? :) That sounds like it could've been rather interesting or just rather messy. ;)) Ech, don't worry; I absorbed a lot by osmosis and then proof-reading a few fanfics before I ever had an interest in them. ;)) (...and that all was mostly actually what made me interested...)

Oh, and while I have your attention: Did we ever get the genetics for Eileen and David and everyone sorted out? It randomly came to mind the other day, and I'm still trying to wrack my brain over it. I poked Winter again about it, and got her to concede that it could be possible for Eileen to have had the gene and then somehow got something like a cancer that rewrote her gene structure but positively, thereby either erasing the gene or stopping it from mutating or just making it a carrier... But that'd require some very careful manipulation, I think. ;))

Well, that's good, though not particularly helpful if it happens again. ;))

I thought it was a very high-end example of fan-fic, actually, especially for my first foray into that fandom. ;)) The osmosis was enough that I wasn't lost, and/or the writing was enough to establish me in the story.

I still don't have a detailed plan on the genetics yet, no. ;))

Well, I did google it, so I could probably do that again. ;))

Oh, that's good! :) (Maybe you could send me the link sometime? And the one for King Edmund's Crusade, since I think about it every once in a while but then never remember to look for it when I have time. :P And anything else you think I might find interesting, I suppose...) Yay for osmosis and good writing! ;))

Oh, okay. ;))

(So... while I'm thinking about it... arranged by length from shortest to longest:
From Pole to Pole
Carrying a Concealed Weapon (and other crimes to commit while being Adora Belle Dearheart)
Neville the Chamberlain
Traditional Recipes for Disaster
King Edmund's Crusade
Freezer Burn

The last two have warnings for mature content, if I remember correctly.)

(Thank you very much! :) I'll read them as I have time. Or inclination to procrastinate. :P

Also, at the uni library today, I randomly found a little book that's "a layperson's guide to genetic engineering". No idea if it'll be helpful at all re: werewolf genetics, but I checked it out anyhow. ;)) )

(Yeah... the last one took me three days, so it definitely requires a time commitment. But the first three ought to be good for procrastinating. ;))

Ooooh, interesting. You'll have to let me know if I ought to find a copy myself. :D )

(Alright. :) Oh, good. Mmhmm, I pulled up the first one since I have an exam to study for. ;) It's rather humourous... ;))

Will do! :) )

(Yes, I did. :D I've actually made it through all but the last two now---the Adorabelle Dearheart one was hilarious, and sounded just like the books. ;)) Neville the Chamberlain was pretty fun too---I loved the possum, poor thing. ;)) And the story by Erestor! I love her stories...they're almost a blast from the past, because they sound like slightly more high-brow versions of the stuff my friends and I read and wrote (...some at least) when the movies first came out. ;)) I need to work on the other two when I have time...)

(Yay! :D Neville and friends are cute. ;)) I wasn't sure if you'd read Erestor's stuff before or not but they are hilarious fluff. ;)) And then there's the other two. ;)) )

(Yes, they are. ;)) Mmhmm, I've read some of her stuff before, but I hadn't read that story before. It was great. :D
Emm, well, I'm working on the other two now. You weren't kidding when you said they'd take major time commitments. :P ;)) And they both are kind of heavy, so require a bit more concentration. But they're both interesting so far. :) Elizabeth is kind of funny, and so is Michael. ;)) As for the other set, well, I'm liking all the little sidetrails with Steve hanging out with various members of the Avengers a bit more than the actual HYDRA plot... ;)) I'm not sure if that's a lack of my interest/like in the comic side, or if it's just because it's easier to understand Clint and Steve going to a baseball game than it is to keep track of all the different serums and experiments and HYDRA plots there are. Maybe both. :P )

(You're doing both at the same time? Ai-yi-yi. :P I thought /Freezer Burn/ started slow, myself, which isn't to say I didn't enjoy them hanging out...because I did and I wouldn't care about the characters if they didn't...but I (perhaps because of my limited knowledge of movie/comic-verse) enjoyed the "tripped up by being a government agency AAAARGH what can you do" bits too. There's a novelty to newness. ;)) )

(Sort of? Maybe I won't forget about either of them, hopefully. ;)) Truth is, I started King Edmund's Crusade and my head starting swimming a little about why they were arguing, so I went over to Freezer Burn, but then my head started swimming there too, so... :"> ;))
Yeah, Freezer Burn did start slow. But I liked all the hanging out bits a lot. ;)) Ah, yes, I can understand the interest in being tied down by being a government agency; maybe I've just seen more things where they have to work creatively inside (...or, you know, outside) boundaries so it wasn't quite as novel/interesting to me? Maybe? I did find the idea that Stark Industries was on fire and trying to be put out by Tony and Pepper (yay!) more unusual, and so have been enjoying that part. ;))

(If they don't grab you, don't worry about it. ;)) Yeah, Crusade isn't shy about doctrine. (And it sort of fits in with our discussion about the Catholic or Protestant affiliation of an author showing in how they portray God in their fantasy novels. ^_^) Freezer Burn is more just a lot of words to draw a picture, IMO.
Maybe! This was my first in-depth venture into the fandom so everything was new and my preceptions of certain characters will be very informed by this treatment. ;)) It seems to me like Pepper has the worst job description of all the characters. She has to deal with Tony at his lowest and her job doesn't sound pleasant either since (at least in this version) she's doing damage control. When does she get a chance to unwind? :(

(Okay, thanks. ;)) Crusade is getting more intriguing (ooh, how interesting! I shall have to keep an eye out for that then), and Freezer Burn mostly grabbed me when Natasha turned/was framed as traitor and Clint went down for it too ( ... )
