The Weekend That Just Won't End.

So Friday night I went to see my friend play drums in a band I'd never seen him with before. Well, turns out this particular band is sort of world-musiclike, and they're all white people. So while I didn't actually dislike the music, I wanted to set everyone in the crowd on fire. Because they were all pretend hippies. As in, they were hippies in college when their parents were paying for their weed, but now they're all five years out of college and wanted to go out and show that they're still cool. So they go see this band in their jeans and $50 t-shirts or goddamn long dress over pants, and suck down Cosmos and Cabernet and hang off to the side of the crowd so they can dance all BIG. "Oh, my dancing is so individual and meaningful it cannot be contained."

I should also mention this was a non-smoking bar. And these douchebags cheered when the singer said "Happy Earth Day." Earth Day? It's not fucking Christmas! Or New Year's, or even President's Day. There is no need to cheer Earth Day, or wish someone a happy one, at that. "Happy Day that you'll sort your recycling out of your regular garbage, which won't happen again until NEXT year at this time." "Happy Vague Guilt Day!" "Happy Oh Shut the Fuck Up, I Saw You Get Here in A Fucking SUV, You Hypocritcial Twat Day."

Anyway, I made it through the evening with no outbursts of violence, but then after the show my friend asked me what I thought, and I told him (except for the part where they're all white and from fucking Chicago, which kind of limits the "world" aspect of things, if you ask me) and then I hung out backstage for a bit until I was afraid someone ELSE was going to ask me what I thought. So I left and got a big, greasy cheeseburger and felt good about it.

So that was Friday.

ETA that actually, that was just the second half of Friday night. I'd gone to another bar to see another band as part of the International Pop Overthrow festival earlier in the evening, but they sounded great and I enjoyed myself. Plus smoking was allowed. More about the rest of the weekend after I have coffee.
