Aware that even though the curfew had lifted, it would behoove her to stay on school grounds, Beka finally got tired of trying to sleep--which was a laugh. She was exhausted from being a hamster, not to mention the odd pattern of bruises. She should be sleeping.
But she couldn't do anything of the sort, not now she was human again (to have two legs and balance and the will to move).
Not normally into running just to run, she did it anyway, exiting the dorms and heading into the cold night air. She wondered, as she fled her thoughts, if she could run forever with her eyes closed. Then decided that would be a bad plan.
Running into walls, for instance, would be bad.
Gradually, she slowed, feeling the strange peace the cold and the night sank into her soul. If she had one. She wasn't so sure about that, wasn't even sure what a soul contained (or pertained to). That was a debate for philosophers.
