If you're a member of supernatural_tv, then you're probably familiar with theseposts about whether or not Sam banging Ruby (whether or not you think it's happening) is rape

Well, first off, I'm very certain that Ruby and Sam are NOT doing the horizontal mombo. The show has gone out of its way this year to bring up the fact to Sam that Ruby is ruthlessly going through meatsuits and that those meatsuits *know* what is going on while they are being held captive. All of this brought up by Meg, none the less. I quite sure Kripke and Co are very well aware of the implications of Rape and at best necrophilia, and would never retcon Sam's person to be so morally defunct. As a matter of fact, they have gone out of their way in S4 to show that Sam is *very* aware of lines he can't cross, and I see in no way any change in Sam's moral compass thus far that would indicate he would participate in Rape or necrophilia. As to the 'things you do in the dark' comment, it is obvious that there are *many* things they can do in the dark that have nothing to do with sex. We saw a very good example: Sam sneaking off in the dark to meet Ruby and exercise his powers in the exorcism of demons.
That said, I agree that *IF* Sam were boinking Ruby, he is the one people should be furious with. Ruby is a demon. I *expect* her to do unscrupulous things; immoral, self-indulgent things, with no care for the consequences to others. Why anyone would direct the anger at her, is just plain stupid. What show have they been watching anyway?
I don't think it's fair to say that people should just 'ignore' or 'get over' Ruby, my patience with her character has been worn thin to the point of almost no return. They need to either make her relevant - I mean, does Sam even *need* her anymore? What function does she serve other than a brother wedge? She's been around too long with too little return in the way of moving the plot forward. For me at this point, it's put up or shut up and go away.
I'm not going to hash out the 'are they/aren't they' or the rape argument because I don't want anyone to beat me with the Spoiler or Interviews Aren't Canon sticks and I can't fully present my arguments without bringing those into play.
I don't think that it was an issue of the OP directing her anger at Ruby, though. I think it's more that she just doesn't like Ruby and is fixating on this particular point as an outgrowth of her distaste. The posting has sadly been deleted, but the language that he uses is a bit volatile and had me lifting an eyebrow. Having visited her journal, I've kind of come to the conclusion that she's just wanky, but I have come across some rather impressive Ruby hate in recent weeks.
I'm not keen on the new meatsuit, but I also am starting to get a little irritated by some of the fen regarding the character. I was careless in my wording when I said to ignore her; I mostly meant in fandom. in the show, she's pretty much impossible to ignore since she's too involved in Sam's character development at this point in time and the brother-wedge (which I hate as much as you do, to be honest) has to be resolved. Else, it will have to end up with Dean and Castiel going one way and Sam and Ruby going another way.
For that reason, she IS contributing something significant to the plot, even if it's only driving that wedge in between the boys. Cas actually drives a siilar wedge between them, too, albeit a bit differently. Part of the issue with Ruby's character in S3 was the writer's strike--that whole season ended up being wonky plot-wise since Kripke had to cut stuff--and part of it is probably because S4 has been VERY Dean-centric so far. And understandably so, what with his whole 'getting pulled out of Hell and having his world flip on its head' shtick. But, as Dean is not really a Ruby fanboy, she and Sam don't get a lot of on-screen private time together. As the season progresses and we see more of those missing four months, that will no doubt change, but at the moment things are too focused on Dean trying to get his legs back under him than on giving Ruby a fair shake.
