Rating: PG Prompt: #052 - Fire Claim: The Time War Table: Here Spoilers: None Characters/Pairing: Romana/Doctor (9) Summary: He is holding her when the end comes.
Wow. Once again, I'm in awe of the images you're able to create with your writing. I was able to picture this heart breaking scene so easily.
He has regenerated, has left her with one face and returned with another. Gazing into his eyes, already suffering from so much age, she smiles and thinks of all the times she has hated him a little more than she loved him. It seems silly now, childish. Lying broken on the ground of her burning planet it is so easy to forgive.
I loved the description of their relationship. You also made a good point. It's amazing how many silly things we worry about in our daily lives. What really matters when you're entire planet is being torn apart?
As always, thank you for sharing your talent with us. I appreciate it more than I can put into words!
Not much longer now and your exams are done! Just hold on. I'll have fic for you when you're done! (You can request something! As long as it isn't a pairing you know I hate...)
I love the imagery in this, and the last line. *cries* Heck, I like your last lines a lot. And that's not because I'm glad the story's over - the exact opposite in fact!
“Keep us alive as long as you can. Keep us from being forgotten.”
Nice motivation for him to go on -- and, not just for the Time Lords, perhaps, but also for her. That thought reminds me of his line in "The Shakespeare Code," "that name [Rose] is what keeps me fighting."
I’m dying and even if I wasn’t I’d be gone once my world is dead.
Does she say this because she can't bear to go on without Gallifrey? Or is there something about the destruction of Gallifrey that kills even Time Lords who aren't there? (Except the human Master, of course, and the Doctor, for whatever reason ...) Or am I reading too much into this?
That's exactly how I think it is: Imagine, the cosmos would be swarming with time-travelling Time Lords if the destruction of Gallifrey hadn't erased them competely from the history of the universe.
I'd initially assumed that all of the Time Lords answered the call to defend Gallifrey(from whatever time they were in? The implications of that gives me a headache, but where/when was the Doctor when he got the call? Or was he already there? Never mind.).
But if that were the case, you'd think some of them could still have escaped, which obviously they didn't, or the Doctor would have known about it.
Although, could there be any more out there in human form, like the Master? (I've been toying with that idea.)
So, if they all died, why didn't the Doctor? Fic forthcoming? ;)
They were all erased by a big fat paradox. The Doctor got spared because he was the one who caused it. Which of course could be totally wrong, but it kind of makes sense.

And always leave such great feedback on top of it.
I know I should be writing Shade but my table felt neglected.

Shade! *grabby hands* We all know how I feel about Shade. ;)
Still, at least you're writing! That's what's most important.
