I've been working on revamping my wardrobe, and I'm pleased that I've been having such good luck lately with finding affordable pieces that fit me well. I haven't taken pictures of anything, but I might start doing OoTDs. I really hate the way my camera's self-timer works, though.
Highlights:
- pink acid-wash shorts for $1. They are even worse than the
ones Torrid was selling. I just need some hi-top sneaks, a low-slung studded or bullet belt, and one of those
Municipal Waste hats that says "wasted" under the brim and I'm ready for Summer of Thrash 2k10.
- on the completely opposite end of the spectrum,
a big-ass floppy hat. I've been wanting one of these for a while, and I'm really excited to have one, and that it looks good on me. (I never wear hats because I think I look terrible in them.)
-
zebra print Chuck Taylor rip-offs. OMGGG I've been wanting a pair like this or leopard print for years, so glad I finally came across some, and for cheap!
- this
b&w buffalo plaid dress which I caught on sale for about $20!
I've always had this strange love for sexy, tailored, businesswear. I found an exclusively plus-size consignment store here in Richmond and scored some really great pieces for reasonable prices. My favorite is this black blazer with 3/4 sleeves, I've been wearing it with everything. I also got this
faux-fur leopard print blazer, which I had just seen on ebay for about $20 more than I paid for it! I also got a b&w polka-dotted wrap dress that fits wonderfully, and another leopard print skirt to add to my collection. I'll definitely write more on this store later and post pics of what I found to fats, if not here too.
I feel like clothiers are finally listening to consumers--or at least our money--and creating really current, on-trend pieces. At least, I've noticed this with UK stores, which I'm currently obsessed with. (It seems like even Torrid isn't lagging behind more than a season or two anymore.) Even though I'm one of those snobs who hates when something she likes becomes popular because I liked it/was doing it first and want to keep it all to myself, I'm usually glad when clothing that I like becomes "in style" because it makes it much easier to find things I like. I really love the way 90's style is being reinterpreted with the wallpaper florals, denim leggings, plaids, high waists, and the juxtaposition of romantic vs edgy. I feel like my style has always been dictated by the very limited offerings from plus-size retailers who seem to think that only frumpy middle-aged women are fat. This "obesity epidemic" is really shaking things up. Now that more and more of us are joining the ranks, we have more and more weight (har har) to throw around, and we can only be ignored for so long. Fat fashion bloggers are being featured in prominent periodicals, and I think increasingly people are realizing that fat doesn't necessarily mean unhealthy. Don't get me wrong: we fatties still have barriers to break down and battles to fight, but witnessing the fat acceptance movement's growing impact over the last four years--when I was first made aware of its prescence--is pretty exciting and makes me more hopeful about the future.
I'll leave you with the first Polyvore collage I've ever made. This is pretty much my dream romper, mixed with some pieces I already own and wish to own. Unfortunately it only goes up to a UK16 or I would have bought it already. (I would replace those buttons with silver-toned ones or all black ones. Necklace should be black, but I couldn't find a picture of its black counterpart online.)
