This weekend was so good. Cyrus came down on Friday, escaping the snow. My girl Bree is in a Crass cover band and played a show on Friday night, so we went to see her and up teh punx. Afterwards, we went to Mike's for brews, Mario Kart Double Dash, and Italian Spiderman.

On Saturday I bought a shit ton of brewskis and pizza, and had people over for Riki-Oh and some Gamecube. Everyone is my Valentine. No pictures. One of my roommates, who is always complaining about any noise above the sound of a pin dropping, yelled very passive-aggressively at my guests as they were leaving. I asked all my roommates in advance if it would be okay to have people over and they agreed, so it's not like I just sprung this on her. I've had people over TWICE since I've moved here six months ago; it's not like I'm throwing "parties" every weekend. My friends are always having me over, have hosted dinners several times, and I would like to return the favor. I pay to live here too. I get so mad every time I think about it. My living situation isn't terrible, but I don't like living here. I can't have Pooter here. My room is so small and like an oven all year round. I need a place across the river, closer to school and my friends.

On Sunday, Cyrus and I went to 821 Cafe for din din. I got a cheesesteak sub and chilli-cheese fries. Up the fatties.

I got my hair cut on Friday. She didn't take much length off--it's that short because of the curls! I go to a salon that specializes in curly hair, and she gave me a specialized curly cut this time. It took some getting used to, but I really like the way my hair looks, and I had no idea my hair was this curly naturally. It doesn't look so good here because I kept disturbing the curls before they could dry. I just really love this kitty. It makes me happy every time I pass by!

Then, we were off to the National to see Saves the Day! OMFG! This band has been one of my favorites, ever since I first heard them at age 14 or 15. I got Cyrus into them, and he renewed my love for them, and even got me into their newer stuff which I always sort of shunned because it was so different from the material I'd grown up with. They've become one of "our" bands, so it was particularly special to see them with him. In junior year, one of the assignments for my AP English class was to choose a band and demonstrate how their lyrics are modern-day poetry. Best assignment ever. I chose Saves the Day. Chris Conley paints the most brilliant images with his words, and they resonate with me deeply. Cyrus onced asked me what my life would be like if Saves the Day never existed. My answer is that my life would be so different. Through Being Cool and Stay What You Are comprised a huge chunk of the soundtrack to my life as a high-school teenager. No road trip is complete without listening to Through Being Cool at least once. And I've always wanted someone to feel about me the way Chris writes. ("I do," replied Cyrus.) As I've explored the newer albums, I can tell that Chris struggles with depression too. I could just quote him and never need to use my own words again. I would love to be Chris' friend.

Seeing them was such an incredible rush that I can't even describe. At the risk of sounding like a crazed, pubescent boyband fan, I totally teared up a few times. I sang and danced the whole time, with a smile plastered on my face. Their set was over too quickly. I felt crushed afterwards because it wasn't a small show where I could just go up to the band and talk to them afterwards.

They are touring with another band I liked back then, New Found Glory. When Cyrus told me they were playing one of their albums all the way through to celebrate its 10th anniversary, I was really hoping it was Nothing Gold Can Stay. (Instead, it was their self-titled album that came afterwards. Nothing Gold Can Stay was their first album, and the only one I got into, although I liked some of their singles that followed.) We stuck around for some of their set.
