Experiences with PCOS?

A while ago I posted about the general chaos that followed after I stopped taking birth control pills. Finally I managed to drag myself out to see my doctor about the whole mess where she informed me that I have classic symptoms of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. (Irregular periods, overweight with the weight being mostly in the midsection, an obnoxious case of acne that refuses to go away...) Yesterday I had a pelvic ultrasound which I should get the results from in a few days.

In the mean time, I'm completely lost. My doctor didn't speak much about what exactly having PCOS means other than "you may have problems having children." I've googled away and got pretty much the same answer. PCOS = infertility! I know there has to be more to it than that though. I've read so many medical theories that I'm about to go cross eyed, but I can't really find anything human, if that makes any sense.

Does anyone here actually have PCOS, or even know someone that does? I know what it is technically... I guess I just want to know how this is going to affect my life. I don't know how serious this really is - I don't even know what treatments are, or if any sort is necessary unless I'm actively trying to have kids.

And a bit off topic, but if anyone has any ideas for home remedies as far as the acne caused by this goes, I'd be much obliged. As vain as it may sound, I've always prided myself on having clear skin. Not being able to make this go away is one of the most frustrating parts of the whole ordeal.
