This video shows the first time I heard this song. Last Christmas, I saw this one game on sale that I heard good things about and decided to give it a shot. By on sale, I mean the $60 was for just $30. Very hard to pass up. When I first fired up the game, the opening cinematic immediately drew me in with a really cool song that ends up being the tone of the game for me. I put a bunch of hours into this game and played it a lot with some friends. I've since stopped playing because I cleared the main story and pretty much all the side quests and I don't have a whole lot of time for playing it again. Anyway, I really love this song. Its got that kind of "western" feel to it (especially the 1 min+ intro that isn't in this video).
From the moment I heard Lovers in Japan on Viva la Vida... I fell in love. It is so upbeat and cheery and happy...idk. Its such a fun song. It starts off with that harpsicordy-piano bit that goes throughout the song that is so simple yet wonderful. Not sure what else to say on this one. Just listen and enjoy! I know I do...all the time...
Is this the first Morning Benders song? It might be. Anyway, I found The Morning Benders through last.fm with their song Promise. Shortly after hearing that song and reading about the San Francisco band, I went to their website and purchased both of their albums, Talking Through Tin Cans (2008) & Big Echo (2010). I listened to those albums a TON and Chasing a Ghost really stood out to me. The heavy guitar with the sick solo. Plus, it is also one of the first songs that I taught myself to play. It's pretty easy and sounds so cool. I hope someday I can figure out the entire guitar solo and maybe record my own version. Lyrics wise, its quite good as well. It sounds like a lost love, but the metaphors Chris Chu uses are just so beautiful. He sings it with a ton of emotion and I love it for that.
I don't think I can say any more about how good Ryan Tedder and the rest of OneRepublic are. Secrets has such a big sound to it thanks in huge part to their use of violins and cellos. And of course we all know about The Piano Guys' version.
This song was a pretty big hit in the 90's and I heard it quite often on The Point. When making this list, I came to my Third Eye Blind songs, and just listening to this song brought back a bunch of memories from my younger childhood and living in California. I found myself really digging this song again and will always be such a memorable tune and song for me. I kind of wish I bought this album a while back, though lol. So many hits. Maybe I should look up some of their newer stuff. They have released 3 albums since Blue in 1999, though they have said that their next album will be their final one.
And that, as they say, is that. 55 to go. Almost halfway there.
