Death of a 'Ship'

May 30, 2006 12:28

I've been meaning to talk about this for a long time. I have read rants from fellow John/Teyla shippers who have a tone of apology within their defense of Conversion. Now this is not another rant, this is a final refutation so people can shut up and get their eyes open and pay attention ( Read more... )

Hiya,

Thanks for the posting and I'm glad you're contributing. To bad you haven't seen S2, I hope I didn't spoil too much for you. Personally, I found it a fun season and the shipperness of J/T is not as blatant as S1, but you can see growth in the relationship in various scenes, Lost Boys comes to mind and Allies--mainly from Teyla. You should stop on the sheppard/teyla thread, if you don't mind spoilers at: http://forum.gateworld.net/showthread.php?t=7728&page=770 We'd love to have you. It's a fun thread and we're in the middle of a month long party before the premiere of S3, but if you don't like spoilers, don't come. :D

Anyway on with your answering parts of your post. I never saw any advertisements myself, since I wasn't even an SG1 watcher, until I saw SGA and some of the people I talked to were pushing me towards SG1, much the way I feel in love with the McKay/Shep and McKay/Zelenka. I fell for Jack/Dan. I'm more of a die hard Jack/Dan than I am M/S and M/Z--although I know no same sex relations will happen. Since I'm a chronic shipper, I figured the most logical one on the basis of friendship and of course the scenes I've seen, I chose J/T. So far it hasn't proven me wrong. I later became aware that they were the chosen ship, from the beginning. But of course with the great chemistry between all the actors and characters TPTB (The Powers That Be) just have a lot more room to play with us and shipperness.

I totally agree with you about Conversion--parts of him were still okay as he even asked her..'You 'kay?' So he did care for her well-being in that instant. You can clearly see the break down of his inhibitions and can estimate where his mind was.

I also am a veteran X-Files shipper. If Chris Carter could keep me hooked on Mulder/Scully for 9 years, I'm sure that SGA can be succesful in throwing many red herrings, at the same time as keeping J/T solid background.:D

On to Ronon. This guy really became popular in answering questions, and only mentioned him once. Well anyway I don't like calling Ronon or Teyla aliens. I call the Atlantis crew aliens as their new to the PG. Ronon and Teyla are natives of the PG--it's something that bugs me. Because people who dislike Teyla make it a point to class her as the sexy hot alien going for the lead sexy fly boy. When John is the alien and Teyla isfar fromthat. She may be beautiful but she can kick ass. But on wards from that little soap box moment! ^_^

Your right that Ronon and Teyla would be close, it's pretty much expected since they come form a common fear and share in the wake of what the Wraith can do and as you said alone on SGA with someting in common. I'm not a fan of the two guys jealous over one girl. I think it moves from being about the girl to being about machismo, and Ronon is no Bates. Bates was definitely someone who pushed John and always mentioned how his personal feelings were clouding his judgement.

Ronon from what I can see looks up to John in a way, and I find he finds a kindred and definitely something familiar and familial from Teyla. I think that is why I love the Ronon/Teyla dynamic, it's the brother/sister relationship---although the sibling attitude where she's mothering does get a tad bit over played. So besides familial nothing more from them.

I agree totally with the last statement.
